Hi all,
Apologies if this topic has been covered. I have been trying to fit a tachometer to my 2010 America EFI (black faced Speedo) with limited, well 50% success. Now before you all shout tight arse (or ass depending on where you are in the world) you should have just gone for the factory one, I'm thinking that myself now, but this one at least looks nice on the bars. Initially coupled up following simple instructions, and to much surprise and delight, seemed to work, however soon realised only showing 50% of the RPM. Of course I thought single fire only picking up spark from one cylinder. Found a tach adapter from the USA, which from its description should work, asked company if it would be suitable for an America, they just replied word for word what it said in the write up about the product. But, I thought worth a shot. So coupled this to both coils and tachometer as instructed and, NOTHING, not a flicker from the tach. Tried coupling each coil individually and tach showing 50% with each. Looks like the adapter only for Vee's.
Any thoughts and advice would be appreciated, even if it's just to learn how to multiply by 2.
Russ

Well, it could be that in the UK, those bikes only turn half the RPM's that they do in USA . That would 'splain it !

I'm sorry, it's the Ethiopian coffee that does this to me.

After a few months of asking on a various forums, no one seemed to have an answer to getting an aftermarket tachometer to work on a 2010 EFI America. However after trawling Google, found a set of instructions for a tach adapter that explained if the tach wasn't working as it should after wiring in the adaptor, to couple a 10000 ohm resistor and a 0.1 microfarad capacitor in parallel between the tach imput wire and earth (ground)..... And it works, now showing proper RPM.
