I just bought a Springfield 1911 and just wanted to let anyone know planning to buy a semi-auto pistol soon that until the end of the month Springfield Armory is giving a free 2 pistol range bag, 2 extra mags, and a 2 mag pouch away with each pistol purchased. Plus the one I bought came with an extra set of grips and holster to boot. Sportsmans Guide had a great deal on this gun and then my local shop beat the price to boot for me.

Very Nice which model did you get?

45 is my favorite caliber.

It makes me feel like I are throwing lead.

1911 A1 I think is the model, military spec parkerized version. There are a couple minor differences from the WW2 original but you have to really know your guns to see the difference.

Nice!I liked the .45ACP when I shot it.the 9mm was ok but the .45 just fit my hand and gave me confidence it would do what's it was designed for.

and .40 designed by committee, doesn't shoot as comfortable as a 9 mm and doesn't work as well as the .45, Much prefer .45 ACP.

I'd like to try a 9mm with heavy pills.I think they make 147 gr.?
Overall I preferred the .45 but the 9mm Browning fit my hand pretty good.

My carry piece is a S&W 9mm, I will decline to say what ammo I use in it.

My small carry is a 357cc six cylinder, and my other carry piece is a 44cc six cylinder, but the latter makes me limp. It's a big hunk of steel !

If it comes down to lead hurling I don't wanna play.

The dealer I ordered my 1911 through has a real WW2 1911 he is thinking of selling. It didn't have a blemish on it and was very tight. Made me drool.

Nothing to do with handguns, but I just bought a Carl Gustav Swedish 96 Mauser made in 1914 today.I've been wanting another one for a long time.

Dang Donny, that sure is purty. I'd never shoot that one, just sit around and wipe it down.

No use having a gun you don't fire. I grew up with the complete Stevens collection, the complete Winchester collection, 2 45-70 civil war era flip breech grande rifles that still had the armory stamp on the butts. Museum pieces and we fired them all, I even hunted with the Winchesters, usually a 32-20 lever action. We had Shootzens , Winerocks, Ithicas, and so on. Over 500 long guns and 50 pistols. Sadly when my grandfather died they went to auction. I was given a 30-06 Mauser that my grandfather sporterized from a military rifle, made a stock, cut the barrel, etc.... If I owned that beauty I would fire it!

Sounds like you had a great time growing up shooting all those guns.We had several as well but nothing on that level. My dad hunted with a 30/40 Krag a lot and several old Mausers.

My grandfather brought many of them back from places all over the world he had traveled to. This was back when a gun could be carry on luggage.

Yes it increases with value being unfired and new in box. Most Colt collectable pistols are worth way much more over the years in mint condition.

Also note that the military is getting ready to sell surplus M1911s to the public.

Do you know where and when they will be available? Do you know if they are modern or vintage?

I would love an M1 carbine in 30 cal. Used to have one, not the most accurate gun but fun to play with. Seems those auction prices are crazy high though. An M1 Garand in mint condition just sold at my local gun shop for $900 and those on that site are over $2000

Those are the sniper M1s selling for $2K.

A Springfield Special sells for $1,030 on the CMP site.

I've seen people selling "mint" Garands for $1K or more than can't shine the shoes of a CMP Special M1.
That being said, I have a CMP field grade M1 that shoots just great.

Your best bet is to go to the CMP stores in Ohio or Alabama and hand pick your rifle of choice. Be sure you qualify for CMP purchases before you make the trip.

I bought a new Springfield 1911 myself, just this past October. MC Loaded Operator. Not the current MC, but an older version still new in box. Just appealed to me more. :

That looks like a really nice piece but the grip safety looks uncomfortable.
