You know every time they make an engine environmentally friendly it hurts performance. It means you have to work a little harder to find out what lies at the heart of the machine.

The new Street Twin is a 270 crank like our America and Speedmaster, these where down on HP compared to the standard Bonneville's 68BHP, probably fairer to compare it to our bikes 60BHP, 72NM. Street Twin 54BHP, 80NM. So its down 6BHP up 8NM. still disappointing.

Something to remember, you may buy on H.P. but you ride on Torque. H.P. is so high in the powerband that top numbers are seldom reached in everyday riding. The Street Twin is meant to be an entry level bike and will prove to be fun to ride with it's available power.

75 MPG, is that a misprint, along with 10,000 mile service intervals. Wow. Of the new line up models this one seems pretty interesting to me. Street twin

If one of the beautiful new Bonnie models ever makes it into my garage, you can BET it'll be one of the 1200cc models, and NOT the 900cc Street Twin.
(...'cause I already own an absolutely beautiful modern Triumph twin-cylinder motorcycle that NEVER HAD THE FREAKIN' PASSING POWER I ALWAYS WANTED!!!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I am patiently awaiting spring to ride one of these new 1200's to see how they stack up against my non stock air cooled twins. I will be surprised if I am not disappointed.
05 speedmaster - 1100cc, 11:1 racing pistons, Carillo rods, thunderbike cams, ported and polished head, 2mm over intake and exhaust valves, Barnett kevlar clutch, scepter pipes, oversize manifolds, 45mm HSR's, TTP stage 4 firestarter

I dunno micah, but even with that aftermarket 904cc big bore kit you've got on your bike, I'll be surprised if you don't notice at least a little more power on tap after your demo ride on one of the new 1200cc Bonnies.
(...especially if ya demo that top-of-the-line Thruxton model which is said to have the most H/P, and even though Triumph won't for some reason release the H/P figures of their new babies, I'M gonna guess that particular Thruxton model is puttin' out at least 90H/P at the rear wheel)

its comparing it to my thruxton that I am most interested in. Depending on how it compares, power, handling and weight I may have to decide on whether to proceed as planned to build up a motor for the 2014 or just trade in (up?)
as for the 90hp at the rear, the old speedmaster is doing that, and its fun.

I had my hands, feet & arse on a Street Twin yesterday. Triumph did a GREAT job on it. Nothing looked cheap to my eyes, attention to detail is good, the OEM pipes look & sound great, and I just love that 270 motor. It would make a very nice runabout or 2nd bike. I would change the mirrors, & maybe the seat. Probably add a center stand. The only disappointment was the lack of a tach. Triumph has a winner with this one.

Hmmm... - single over head cam vs double o/h for 865cc - 4 valves/cyl - same - 10.55 to 1 compression vs 9.2 to 1 = more power - 84mm x 80mm bore/stroke vs 86mm x 68mm for 865cc(longer stroke = more torque) - 59 ft/lbs of torque vs 51 for older model and 48 for 790cc. - 5 speed gear box = same as 865cc - Fuel economy much better.
All in all, I would say a better engine. Once the fellows get to tinkering the power should increase dramatically.

Once again guys, You may buy on Horse Power but you ride on TORQUE. Good to see someone at Triumph gets it. Pretty much explains why my old 883 Sporty at 575Lb.s felt so much better then my America at 550LB.s. I bet the 1200 Triumph will be very strong,if that's what you want pony up and buy the 1200.
