Since I bought my TBA in September and found this site I have been a kid in a candy store. When I have time for myself I find this site second only to riding my bike. I have been working thru every forum updating myself on what I have been missing in my life since 2002. This evening I was going thru Tales from the Road under Rides, Rallies, & Events. I got to page 12. mert's post "and this the road gave me" was masterful and the link to chy's site was enlightening. As someone new to this site who shares the love of riding and Triumphs I think it would be nice to have information on the Georgia Rally front and center on the forums page so those new here can get up to speed and prepare. The only thing I can think of better than sharing on this forum would be meeting some of you in person. Thanks to mert and chy what happened in 2007 was captured so skillfully it was made new to me today. Chy's rides

Mert was one of the first people I met in person from this site, probably back in 03. Only been to one GA rally myself, and it wasn't even on my bike lol. But there's some good folks here for sure!

Reading your post gave me cause to go back and revisit those awesome stories, think of those I've met face to face, those I only have come to know through the magic of Al Gore's inter-invention, and, those that I've seen vanish. So many good folk - So many stories - So many memories. Over the past few years, I've seemed to find less and less time to ride and so often I fall short of the really long rides, instead feeling some clouded feeling of accomplishment in 100 mile and less sprints of wind swept joy. Rereading these stories has rekindled thoughts of joyous adventure. I need to set some goals. Thanks and thanks to all y'all.

I started writing. I could not help myself.
There was a time when taking a ride was about the curve of the road laid out in front of you. Feeling the front tire float on a gravel road like a boat cutting through water.
In those days 650 cc's was king.
The America is a cruiser, but once you get her rolling down the road you will find a machine with a low stance that is surprisingly nimble. Able to dip deep into curves then rise up only to be laid easily on the other side. Precise, she will hold her line and with clearance other cruisers envy.
The twin cylinders will move you and with the twist of the throttle has the authority to get you out of trouble. An experienced rider will appreciate the character this bike delivers. Riders new to motorcycling will find a grace that is near perfection.
There are those of us that remember the simplicity of another time. Others discover the wonderment of the road anew every day. The Triumph America is a motorcycle that captures that moment. Old and young we ride to discover roads that still roll over hills and cross creeks with iron bridges. We rejoice in gravel roads, and the only music we need is the heartbeat of a parallel twin. When we see an old road with faded lines it is our invitation to see what adventure lies ahead.
If the destination you seek is not just a place, but the road it takes to get there. Then you are one with us.
Welcome to America

Nice piece of writing there.. brings back memories of the old days. Big Jack and Dianne showing up a week too early but then Jack rode back to Indiana to drop of Dianne and came back the following weekend. Dave Chapman and Bonnyusa Dinqua and the yutes, Glazer and young Englishyank.. yota, Charlie and the guys...Larry and Kathys feasts. Man... it has been one helluvva ride. I've met a lot of really cool people some of whom I hold dear and made some lasting friendships.. I've traveled to places I thought I would never go... all brought on by the purchase of a motorcycle.
Funny old world ain't it?

Billy, if you ever have a couple days to meet in Bloomington - Where the Oaken Bucket can be found- and want to take a tour along the Ohio River country, I have a place down there. I have had different friends do this and say its some of the top riding they have had.
I agree in the America being nimble. I rode an HD Switchback around an neighborhood, and it had the most awful balance. I don't understand the appeal of HD's.
No matter how Cynical I become, I can never keep up.

Sounds like a plan Brad. I grew up in Covington Indiana so I do bleed Cream and Crimson my man. Been in Purdue country since 1986 so I have had to learn to tolerate black and gold.
Kinda like a vampire getting used to garlic.

well, i have to say i am a little blown back -- in a most beautiful way. stumbling upon your post Bill, just about makes my heart swoon with memories of all of days and time on the road.
the GA rallies, NY, NH, trip around Lake Superior, SWTF and all of the other miles that came to fruition from not just the love of the machine and the road, but from itching to see the guys who became my brothers.
thanks for stirring the soul of memory.

Been a long time since I posted here. I had a '02 America in Red(the faster ones). It was strange seeing my picture at Chy's site. I really enjoyed the Nor'east rallies at Pat's house. My riding style has changed quite a bit over the years. My most fun now is doing dirt roads. I took the Puppydog route from Mass to Jay, VT this past summer on my Vstrom. Still have my Tiger 1050. Maybe I'll see some of you at the Bennington Triumph Bash in June. I hope you are all well. Matt

It is wonderful that things that are new to me are memories to you an I thank you for sharing.
Do not let living get in the way of life.
There are still memories to be made. Get out there and make them.
I have been caught up living for a number of years. Getting the bike this fall has opened me up to life again. I am going to enjoy it as much as I can and make some new memories.
