My 2006 America was my first bike, my first love if you will. So it was a difficult decision to let her go last summer after buying a Tiger 1050. I got a great offer for the bike, so it made the decision to sell a little easier to swallow. I love my Tiger, it's a great bike, but I kept thinking about the old girl and wished I could have kept her. This summer rolled around and what did I see pop up on Craigslist? Yep, my old America. The guy I sold it to needed money to start a business. I couldn't really afford to buy it back, but I kept asking about it. Long story short, the guy wasn't getting any bites, and was desperate, so he eventually accepted my lowball offer. I am now a 2 Triumph guy. He did some questionable mods (in my opinion) in the year that he had it, so now I guess I have a project bike for the winter.

Glad you got it back, I know I like my old Triumphs but I love my SM. It doesn't have the personality the old bikes do but I don't have to tweek it when I want to ride. I have ridden bigger bikes and I just like the feel of my SM. Power to weight is fine for me and it handles nicely. Have fun with it as I am sure you will.

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

is that some yellow tiger body work under the bench? or just a odd souvenir from an Illinois state park?

What questionable mods?
He was starting to do a "rat bike" thing. He put the brown seat on, then it sat outside and faded, so now it looks like s**t. Spray painted the headlight and the mirrors black, and did a really bad job, can't tell from the pic. There's even overspray on the triple tree. He actually didn't take them off the bike to paint them. Took the aux lights off, but left the light bar on there. Taped off the wiring with black electrical tape. A few other minor things that aren't worth mentioning. All in all it's just minor stuff I guess, but it's just not the same you know. So now I'm left with the task of deciding "do I put it back the way I had it, or make it a bobber/hot rod?" It was set up before so I could tour on it, but I have the tiger for that now. I'm thinking of selling a bunch of stuff off of it and doing it up bobber style.

Know anyone in need of a baby-poop yellow gas tank and rear section?

That's right, she's a keeper for sure. That was my justification actually, how many chances do people have to buy back their first bike?

How lucky can you get, just sometimes you don't know what you're got until its gone, hope you have a lot more happy miles on her. There is a couple of bikes I had in the 70s .. 80s that I would sure love to have back..
