Usually they are pretty close right out of the box. It's supposed to be between .031 to .035 inches.

Check them with a matchbook. Really! They are pretty close to the right thickness if you're concerned about the gap.

S;eaking of which, what do you guys really use to check? And then what do you use to actually make the adjustment? I've seen those little round keychain spark plug gap things at pep boys but haven't bitten yet.

Get a wire gauge, with the adjusting tool made for spark plugs. The round ones can put pressure on that small center electrode and damage it. It can be too easy to try to fudge it just a bit using the measuring part to adjust. No real harm (usually) on standard plugs, but can damage iridiums quite easily. Always adjust by bending the side electrode.

Regarding iridium plugs from the Denso site as NGK doesn't post tech info: Q. Do I need to set the gap? A. Generally, no. The DENSO Iridium Power plug comes pre-set with a protective sleeve over the firing end, to protect the gap from accidental alteration. DENSO Iridium Power’s ultra-efficient firing power compensates for normally recommended gap settings that are smaller than the pre-set value. In the cases of vehicle modifications (nitrous, turbo-chargers, super-chargers, high power ignition systems, etc.), some adjustments may be desired. Or, if you prefer to remain consistent with factory specifications, you may adjust. However, please be careful not to place any stress on the fine center electrode during adjustment. You could accidentally break off the very hard, and therefore brittle, tip. Denso iridium FAQ page

Thanks jj. I left them at factory settings. Started right up after a winters sleep. I put the light bar on today, too. Now just front and rear brakes and the slipstreamer. Of course I was ready to go for a little ride but nooo, it had to rain.
