I'm going to be buying a 2002 Bonneville America today and want to give it the looks of a Bonneville or Scrambler. Any suggestions on where to start? Thank you.

Question is why?...Parts are not interchangeable between an America and a Bonneville....any where from pegs, exhaust and etc....riding positions are different...

Start by trading your scoot for a Bonnie or a Scrambler, you'll be money and time ahead. And even if you do a super pro job of morphing it, you will destroy the inherit value of the bike. 2002 s are considered collectable as they are the 1st model year. Now that you probably don't want it, how much is the going price, I might be interested.

Don't be discouraged. Making it your own is half the fun.

Thruxton seat, Tiger T400 Wheel, Bonneville shocks, Emgo fairing, it's a 790 with K&Ns, modified pipes, pro com, changed setting of the camshafts.
Love it!

Not that much, made a bracket for the seat to fix on, cutter down an old fender to keep all clean underneath and made a longer hooky for the seat front. Nees to put some lights and blinkers on and will try to get it going with Thruxton headers and exhaust or at least a shorter pipe.

Well, in no particular order, you need much longer shocks, raise the forks in the trees, fab up yourself some mid-pegs, change the tank, get a new speedo and lop the rear fender. Then you will notice you seat is still pretty low & the 15" rear doesn't do it either, so you put on a 17 rear and make a new saddle that looks kinda flat... after that, the front fender looks out of place, so you replace that...

At some point, you say "I could have bought a Scram, err.. a Bonnie", but NO... You repeat those words over, and over, and over, but, it is too late. You're too far gone and all this has been fun.

After making a change or two a year - "just for fun" --- each annual project turns into your personal pilgrimage to Mecca.

For better or worse, I will say, I did not make these changes in the order I listed, but hell, it's 10 years old & I love it. While I still like the looks of the America & Speedy, the ride did not work for me from a comfort standpoint or suit my riding style. That was the driver behind most all of what I have done.

So, today this is where I am and while I did not set out to turn it into a anything but something I wanted to keep riding, you can take the word of the guy who has probably cut more foam forms and cut up even more seat pans than anyone trying to make a reasonably flat saddle for an America that will be damn near impossible to turn it into a Scrambler or a Bonneville (FYI - your toughest challenge "hiding" all the rake you cannot get out of the frame)... I probably ended up with some resemblance, but it was blind luck.......Does anyone else like it? I have no idea at all. But we all own them so we can do what we want. You do to now, so enjoy the ride & making it your own!

Now what to do? Well, I bought a Bonnie frame because I really couldn't figure out what to do this coming winter.
