Well, my factory petcock is now going up for the second time. It sticks in the off position. It can be forced to on but it's not right. This is the second time this has happened. Anyone else ever have this problem? First time was replaced under warranty. My question is, is there still a problem with the Pingel petcock leaking where it mounts to the tank? I read about this some time back on this forum. Any help is appreciated. Ride Safe EZ

The leak problem with the Pingels was a mounting issue. Some have received the Pingel with a thick gasket that split when you tightened the bolts. Others have not had that problem. Some have said they had to file the hole in the tank a little bigger so the screen portion would fit up into the tank. Others have not had that problem. And some members have had no problems whatsoever. There are fixes available if you should buy one and have a mounting problem.
As for the stock petcock - same thing. Some have had problems - some haven't.

My factory petcock has been sticky since day 1. If i put any inward pressure on it ,it will not go on or reserve. Have to gently caress it on. I been thinking of changing it anyway cause its about the only thing i havent replaced with chrome.

Mine was stuck pretty bad once... but fine now. It's on my list, but way below some other things to get.

The stock petcock valve on my 03 America tank works fine. I recently had a second tank custom painted I decided to put a chrome Pingel valve on it and yes I did have to enlarge the hole slightly. Instead of using a file which would produce fine metal filings, I used a "unibit" on a cordless drill, did the job effortlessly and any shavings it would produce would be of a larger size and not slip past the screen on the valve. I installed the valve as per instructions using the gasket and sealer provided and not a drop of gas has leaked . Make sure to use teflon tape on the actual valve threads before screwing it to the adapter plate .

Mine stuck once when the bike was a week or two old. I gave it a twist with a pair of channel locks and that made a believer out of it, never stuck again.
