sometimes talking politics, religion, etc is fun as it allows us to blow off steam due to the idiocy seen in the news..... I may be wrong but have never heard of anyone "unfriending" anyone due to their views. Keeping in mind that as Triumph riders we are the sophisticated thugs of the motorcycling world. i.e. we put thought with our gutteral utterances !

I think the instagram and facebook formats have a lot to do with it, no attention span anymore. The younger people also are very self-absorbed, they are the "me" generation, no respect or consideration for others.
They've been saying that since ancient days. Was it Aristotle or Plato who made a similar comment? Perhaps we should ask Thanassis, I think he hung out with them.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

My guess as to why the Thunderbird1600 website has always seemed a little more congenial and even when the discussions there might turn to the often controversial topics of politics and religion is there always seemed to be a much higher percentage of the typically more tactful INTERNATIONAL membership at THAT forum than there is of us typically freakin' overly cocksure of our own opinion AMERICANS here at BA.com. (...YOU know, like Larry, Ian and MYSELF!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

No, we're not all tactful.....its just that some of our put downs are so obscure that no one understands them well enough to take offence. Interestingly although I'm also on the Thunderbird 1600 forum, I've not been tempted to post...don't know why, that's just the way it is. Al

HEY now! Don't sell yourselves short there, Limey! 'Cause from what I've ever noticed, in general you guys over there on that little island situated off the coast of continental Europe DO tend to be more tactful than we Yanks are, and it ISN'T just 'cause you're better at that whole "obscure put-down" stuff, and whether or NOT you guys use that dumb superfluous letter 'u' while texting those "obscure put-downs"!
I mean, haven't you ever heard the expression "American Exceptionalism", and a concept with the underlying thought that we Yanks are better than anyone else in the world, and thus have some god-given right to be as cocksure about our opinions and about such things as how the rest of the world should be more than anyone else on this planet???
And I don't know about YOU, but I sure as hell have never heard of anything such as "BRITISH Exceptionalism"!
(...well, okay, at least not since you guys lost that there Empire of yours anyway!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yeah, an empire is not a little thing. Like you put it down and say " now what did I do with that empire? " Check your pockets, I dunno. Now you know why you don't want to come to the dark side Cone of Silence.

Dwight old mate, As an Australian, not usually known for their tact or thought of bruised egos or feelings, I haven't heard the term"American Exceptionalism", but I have heard "American" used in front of many, many other words.[usually unfit for print.]

American Exceptionalism? " Always remember, Son, that you have been born an Englishman...and have thus won first prize in the lottery of life". As a Scot, naturally I admire this sentiment and only wish it is one to which I could aspire. Al

I've just deleted my original draft on Yorkshire ( UK) for fear of reprisals against the Scots. Many have been irremediably damaged by receiving Yorkshire Pudding through the mail, despite the existence of the Geneva Convention expressly forbidding this. Al

Yeah like Ron Says, welcome to the forum! Sanford's got to be hot. As hot as Merritt Island this time of year! (And wet) Wet, one of my bikes doesn't like the wet. Yesterday the ole Dame (not the water shy prudent one) and I tried to play in the rain. All we got was misted, and got to look at lot's of shelf clouds, grey black and windy. Nothing like being close to home when wearing non water proof boots! Jeez where was I? Oh Yeah, Welcome!

And that is the legacy of Robert, Phil, and The Good Friar RIP. I'd even have to say, more-so John Bedard than anyone else. Heck who can't hear him even now? Hey you chuckles-heads is it time to withdraw access to the cone and get back to babysitting the forums for the moderators?
Who can't recall the banter of yutes? Jeez. Now 'they is all' married up and such. Heck, California? Common literski!
Remarkable. Absolutely remarkable, how this site was the impetus for three americas, 200,000 miles+ and meeting some of the finest folks on the planet. Hear hear to all. Thank you for the memories. My first lobster roll, heck, I didn't even know what one was!, was enjoyed in the company of Jack RIP and Diane, among others. Back in the day when the pioneers, well pioneered! Dinqua. Jeez. Speedmaster red azz amber ale notwithstanding. The Ride to Robert's town. Some little issue at the days inn. Mark tilling a horseshoe pit in Georgia. Eating massive amounts of abandoned bbq in Eureka Springs. A true lobster bake in New Hampshire. Seeing the weather change in Oceanside due to Atlantic ocean water.
Yes Ron, The friendships made here, made in College Station/Snook TX, Canandaigua, Dahlonega, Litchfield, Prescott, Dansville, ...will last a lifetime. Each and every rally holds the promise of more remarkable people, more striking adventures.
