I am trying to find out where my troubles lie. I have a 2006 America nology ignition coils and ttp firestarter igniter. Both of these are only about 9 months old. When I go for a ride after 10 to 15 miles my engine dies and I have no fire to either plug. After a 20 to 30 minute cool down period my bike fires up and I can go sometimes 10 or more miles before it dies again with no fire to the plugs. I did a search but could not find how to test to see if the pick up coil is the issue. I looked in my manual but it does not say how to test it just changing it out. Any help will be appreciated.

Given the symptoms, within a reasonable degree of certainty the culprit is the pick-up coil a/k/a ignition sensor.

THIS POST explains how to check for a failed pickup coil which only acts up when it gets hot. Excellent post. Sure does sound like your problem. Just noticed, it's in the Tech Vault. Why didn't I check there first???

Thanks for the help and information. I have to wait until next week to check it out. Hopefully all will go well.

I was finally able to get the pick up coil changed. It took the dealer over a week to get the part and a week for me to have the time to change it out. The replacement took me a couple of hours and went fairly smooth. I went for a few short rides and all was fine. Yesterday I put it to the real test and for a 200 mile ride. Thanks all for the help and steering me to the tech vault.
