This is kind of a strange question, but I read "somewhere" that an Insurance company won't pay the insurance if arson is involved. Not if you burn your own house down, (that would be obvious), but even if some other scumbag burns it down. Anybody know if this is true? I'm finally getting insurance on my unfinished house again (long story) and this idea really bugs me, and I don't understand it.

That is not correct. They may postpone payment under a reservation of rights to investigate the fire. But if they can't prove the arson benefited the named insured they will have to pay the claim.
There is a old joke about the claims adjuster finding a gas can and a lighter in the burned out basement. He got really excited holding up the can saying "Arson!". The owner said, "Oh my goodness, somebody burned my business! Can I have my check now?"
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

Yeah, that was my first thought. But I felt kind of funny asking that question after finally finding a co. who would insure my house. Long story short..., I started this house three years ago, had some minor disasters, one after another, and the money to finish the house dissapeared. I had "building insurance" for the year that it took me to make it "livable". But the Insurance co. would only give me building insurance for one year, then they cancelled. Then, they wouldn't sell me regular house insurance because the house wasn't finished. Catch 22. So I've been sweating this insurance stuff for a couple of years. (Even so, what's the odds of anything happening to a new house, other than tornado. Which we get around here.)
