Coils can operate fine when cool and then crap out when hot right ?

Yeah, that is usually the case, the more heat, the more resistance, more resistance, more heat, vicious circle.

Yep. The ignition unit acts the same way.

The type of coil our bikes use may also be fine when dry in any temperature but when it is wet out and they get hot a crack may open and cause failure.

The pick up coil can fail that way also. The rain would have no effect on it but could be coincidental that it was wet and hot maybe?

09 America, some modifications

That's a possibility. Bike's hot, ran thru some rain, crapping out. Gonna do both coils and igniter, if no fix I move on further.
Thanks you sirs.

Im confused, which doesn't take much. I thought u swapped all these goodies off of another bike and tested only to have the same issue?

It's not speeding till you get pulled over.

No Mike, don't get confluttered on my account. I put Lola's good coils on the Speedie and just ran it on the carport and she ran fine. I made an assumption. I sprayed water all over the Speedie coils and could not get it to act up on the carport either.
Fickle thing. Just wants to act up away from home.

As stated above the pick up coil is a possible suspect as well, it can fail when hot as well.
