Looks like it's my year for weird s**t to happen, first the 'emergency flasher' syndrome with the signals (still unresolved), now this. Got the bike all slicked up, new oil, carbs balanced, clutch perfect, etc., and head out for a shakedown cruise. Things are humming along perfectly until I get home, and notice this stuff leaking out of the breather. WTH is this?? Last time I saw anything close to it was when an '81 Linclon blew the headgasket and something resembling this was on the dipstick.

Looks like you got some moisture in your oil Doug. You wash the bike recently?

by the way, if you did wash it recently, you should check the tightness of your sparkplugs

Yes, it does resemble the onslaught of a barf-o-rama, albeit with a distinctly carbonaceous air about it.

Nope, sure haven't Dave. How else could moisture get into the system? I figure I'd see signs of a leak if I had a bad gasket, right?

And I guess more importantly, how bad is this and what can be done about it other than new oil?

did you leave it out in the rain? water can get in at the sparkplugs if they are not tight, especially the right side if it's been on the side stand

No sure didn't. Been sitting in the garage except for a few test rides. And I just pulled, cleaned and gapped the plugs and they were nice and snug. Odd.

oil change time (duhh) , drain the barf into a jar and let it sit for a while and see if you get any settling of water.

Ugh, afraid it was gonna get to this. Let's see, about 26 miles on the current lot. No bueno. I do wonder from where the errant substance originated, and hopefully it will not find its way back in.

maybe you just got bad oil, I'd go back where I bought it and demand a replacement with only 26 miles

Sometimes, when over-filled, oil will contact the crank and get all blended up with the internal air. The result is a similar foamy mess. Check your level perhaps.

I don't see an oil refund or free replacement happening for this.

you won't on the sidestand. the oil splits the glass when level

If it was my problem, I might flush the motor out with Diesel fuel. What brand of oil are you using, just curious.

On the sidestand the window should be completely covered. This one looks completely empty. At least that's the case on mine.

mcb66, you should not be seeing any oil in the site glass when on the side stand. If the glass is covered while on the stand, you either have a dirty sight glass or WAY too much oil in the case.

As wade said, the oil should split the glass when stood straight up only.

I just can't help but think that the recent oil change and this mess are related. Maybe the fill plug loose? Water intrusion.
Jet stuck filled the bottom end up with gas?
Somewhere a vent is blocked? Weird....

Thanks for all the input. New oil tonight. We'll see what happens.

Took a quick 10 mile hop with four new quarts of Mobil 1 onboard. Just a trickle of the unsightly substance is in evidence, hopefully the last remnants of whatever it was. So could it have been just crappy oil?
