Told you guys I would keep you posted on the Wal Mart battery I installed. Well seems it pretty much sucks, the OEM battery lasted 9 years untended in my unheated shed. The Wal Mart battery was so dead it barely lit the headlight. It didn't have enough juice to do anything else. No click from solenoid, not a sound from the Stebel horn or compressor, no turn signal. The Goldwing I bought from a member here for $200 fired right up though! That was an excellent buy, I am trying to hang on to it for my buddy when he gets out of prison.

I have found that the Wal-Mart type batteries generally suck as well. They are more of a " get you through in a pinch, replace with a quality one asap" battery.

I used to manage Wal Mart Tire and Lube where the batteries are and I can assure you that is not the case. (used to be anyway) The Wal Mart batteries are name brand (use to be Exide) with the Everstart label applied.

There are only a handful of batt makers and they make for all brands! I mean Colgate has a division for making batts lol when you buy a batt find out who the real mfg is and go with who you like , for example if you like name brand x and they also mfg batt y and it's cheaper then why not buy batt y ??
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

My son Stephen is also having a problem with his Everstart battery we bought just less than 6 months ago from Wal-mart. I had to meet him a few miles from home on Memorial day and we had to push start it to get it home. I've got in on the charger right now.

I've had probably a dozen Everstart Walmart batteries over the last 15 years in everything I owned. America, street crusers, dirt bikes, etc. All in the Florida heat. They ALL lasted about 3-5 years, which is good for Florida.

I have another one in my tractor that sits outside and I only start it when I need to use it. That battery has to be at least 9 years old maybe 10. Every spring I expect the thing not to start but every year it does, this year included.

Pretty good luck with EverStarts here. I have a Sears battery in one of the bikes, Duracells in the other two (from BatteriesPlus). EverStart Maxx goes in all of the cars/trucks. Just replaced the one in the Camry @ 5 years, two months. Not bad for a vehicle that's only driven a few times each year.
Was not happy with the replacement battery I got at CycleGear. It only lasted 2 years.

I just replaced the Everstart in our large Tahoe TODAY. (Probably was affected by this post)
Anyway, a search of my receipts show that the first one lasted just shy of three years, so it was replaced for free. That replacement was installed in March of 2011. That one went bad this week. So, I'm getting 33 months to 4+ years in a vehicle that gets daily, short trip use in Florida. These are five year warranty batteries. 3 yr. free replacement, 2 more years pro-rated.

I had it on the charger 2 days but it wouldn't hold a charge. I took it back to Walmart today and told them the battery was only 4 months old. they said sorry. It only had a 90 day warranty. Last time I buy a battery at Wal-mart.

If you pitched a fit and threatened to call home office they would have done something for you. You could go back and try that, they still may. That almost never fails, be sure to take names when arguing. If that fails actually call 1-800-wal-mart, often home office will do something if the store refuses. They will try and be slick about it, they will not warranty the battery but they will give you a gift card under customer satisfaction. The way Wal Mart looks at it is they would rather lose the cost of the battery to keep you happy and sell you thousands in groceries and other goods.

I am done with lead acid batteries. Lithium Iron batteries in both bikes. The one in the Tiger 1050 I haven't connected to a battery tender since installing it almost 2 years ago. The OEM Lead Acid battery I had to charge every time before I tried firing the bike up. The Lithium can have less than a 60% charge, and still put out more power than a fully charged Lead Acid battery.

I remember you were going to do that. I think I am going to go that way with my TB. It is a 2010 and it's only a matter of time before I will have to replace the original battery. I looked on the Scorpion website. You can get a Lithium battery for an America for $149 and for my bike it is $227. With no sales tax that's not a bad deal for an America. At least it has a 2 year warranty and 3 years if you buy and use their charger. Better than the 90 days warranty from wal-fart.

It wasn't the battery after all. It was the mini 30 fuse. We got him a Duracell MC battery made in the USA. I guess we can use the Chinese battery as a back-up. Does that mean I owe the grave of Sam Walton an apology?

Based on the direction his company took after his death, ol' Sam has probably been spinning for quite a few years now.

+1 From what I learned about him from those that knew him he genuinely cared about those that worked for him and really wanted to help people.

According to my wife, who worked there for a while (CSM), employees looked forward to his visits. He spent more time with the 'ees than he did with the managers.

That's sad when Big Corp Inc. takes over as opposed to a genuinely warm human being.
