I would like to say THANK YOU for all of the help and dedication and sacrifices that the Americans made in WWII. I wasn't born till 1955 in England but without the USA's contribution to the war effort my Father who went through that war always said "If it wasn't for what those Yanks did in the war for us we'd be speaking German". I emigrated in 1980 from England and have been here ever since and became a Citizen in 2004 and I'm Proud to be an American.

I know I've mentioned it before, but my Dad when asked about his service (France, Germany, England) always told me "I did what I had to do, so you wouldn't ever have to worry about it." He never would talk about it. Mom, as a Colonel in the WAAC, organized troop entertainment (Bob Hope, Glenn Miller, etc.).

I remember people blowing horns and dancing in the streets. Not much traffic to hold up because gas was still rationed.
Then my stuff was sold or given away and we moved to the west coast to follow the war because my father's ship was moved to the Pacific.
I notice there is no mention of the roll played by the Merchant Marine. Without them, the UK would have not been able to hold out, the Russians would have not had the supplies to beat back the Nazi invasion etc.
Those guys exhibited extreme courage crossing the ocean in slow moving unarmed or lightly armed ships, many made with new untested technology.
