We all know that the TBS front hub is a direct swap for the Speedy. There has been some suggestion that the Tiger hub is as well, it is not. I recently acquired a TBS hub, thanks Ryk, and was looking for a 2.5 x 19 hoop to lace it to. Buchanans wants in the neighborhood of $248 for one . So to that end I have been searching for a used Tiger hoop knowing that others have gone that route. Well I scored a complete 2002 Tiger front rim for $135. I figured what the heck, at the least I saved $110 over a new hoop. There is also the possibility of being able to reuse the spokes, and at best the whole rim fits. Well I received the rim today. I took some measurements and the TBS hub is roughly a 1/2 wider than the Tiger hub. Meaning that the rotors would be closer together and the calipers would not line up and that there would be roughly a 1/4 inch gap on each side between the forks and the hub. The bearings are also different with the Tiger having a smaller diameter axle. Now the bearings could be swapped out but the inner spacer would present a problem. I suppose if one were inclined you could machine a new inner hub spacer, two spacers to take up the space between the forks and spacers for the caliper mounts. So it could be made to work but is NOT a direct swap.

I posted that from my research the Tiger wouldn't go straight on, but our new member from Scandinavia insisted they do fit. So there you go. Any rim with 36 spoke holes will fit the TBS hub, if needed there are custom lengths spokes from Buchanan. There are some Royal Enfield aftermarket 36 spoke rims about, from India that are reasonably priced on EBay every so often. You might conduct a search there, in case you can't find a rim that suits you. This one looks good: Excel

Well, I was primarily after the Tiger hoop, which I will just remove and use for my set up. Like I said, the hub was just a bonus and for the price I paid I do not feel like I am out any money. With the conflicting reports I had to know for myself. I just wanted to post this so that others on here did not go out and start buying Tiger front hubs/rims thinking that they are a direct swap.

Oh, one other thing. I believe that our friend from Scandinavia got his TBS hub, complete rim actually, from one of the custom wheel building places in the UK and there in lies the confusion. Those places do not actually manufacture OEM Triumph hubs but custom copies. So, you may be able to get a "Tiger Style" hub from them that fits the Speedy but an actual Tiger hub will not. Here is a link to an example that I ran across. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRIUMPH-TWIN-DIS...362&vxp=mtrAnd some pics from them of their "Tiger Style" hub that they claim fit the Speedy, again that is NOT an actual tiger hub.

Well, I guess it's me you are refering to! Interesting I must say. I use a TBS hub on my front wheel. The reason for this is I like it the best. Pure cosmetic. So far, so good!
Now the Tiger hub is, according to CWC in Birmingham, a direct swap. I trusted them since they made the wheels for Triumph. No need for me to think otherwise. But...after reading some of the posts here I must say I'm a bit confused. It could be I got something wrong, when I talked to the bloke at CWC. And to be honest, a plausible explanation! Sorry!
If you're looking for a 36 spoke rim, have a look at Yamaha's wheels. They use 36 aswell.

Hey John, I don't want you to think that there are any hard feelings because there are not. I was able to buy a complete Tiger rim, as in rim already laced to hub, for less than the price of just the rim itself so I do not feel like I am out any money. I tried to mount it up to see if it fits to be sure and it does not. I already have a Thunderbird Sport hub so I just need to get the rim laced up. Like I said previously I believe that the place that you got your hub from can make a " Tiger style" hub for Speedmasters but an actual Tiger hub is not a direct swap. Again no hard feelings at all. I got the rim I wanted for a good price and just happen to have an extra Tiger hub.

Thanks mate! I did feel a bit strange, to be honest. I only did what I thought right. I'm glad things turned out for the best! Cheers!
