i have just bought a JB Fabrication, plug n play sissy bar. i ordered the one for the DT model as the circumfrance was the same as my speedys rear guard. guess what, it bolts straight up. the holes in the sissy bar line up with the holes in the fender at both ends perfectly. i have used it with a single seat and pad and have used it with the original speedy seat also. the only problem with the original saet is the factory seat lock in the middle of the fender. since i mainly use a solo saddle i have done away with that. you need to use the threaded hole to secure the front of sissy bar and i just secure the speedy seat at the rear. works fine. All sportster and dyna uprights fit it. i have got to get my act together and post some pics. its a nice tidy setup with no visible strut mounts.

So it's not so much a sissy bar as a rider backrest - right? Certainly looks solid and useful.

Its not a rider backrest. It is a sissy bar mounting plate. Once installed you can use short or long sissy bar uprights and pads. All uprights made for HD Sportsters and Dynas fit.

It looks like you would just turn it for solo seat or two/up seating. Looks pretty cool. Would also free up the fender rails and make the bike look better IMHO. I think I may be buying one these guys.

Yous guys be careful with this new fandangled sissy's bar. Those fender attachment points are not 1/100th as strong as the fender strut bolts. If'n you load up your sissy bar like I do I would venture to say you could suffer the lost beer/battery syndrome aka Pat's dirt road escapade.

I agree. I wouldn't use it for a bag anyway, just the occasional ride with the GF.

But losing one of those off the back might get you in a bit of trouble as well

So true. She hangs on REAL tight anyway (really doesn;t NEED the sissy bar) but it might be nice. I'll obviously be waiting to see how sturdily it mounts first

I currently have a HD Softail Duece Sissy bar (CLICK HERE FOR INFO) and it mounts to the fender with 3 bolts. Had to drill holes for them. I felt comfortable with it because the mounting of it, like the one in this thread, goes under the passenger and seat so when you're riding 2 up your passenger's weight is on the mounting so it would be extremely difficult for it to rip out. I like the idea of this one better than what i have because I don't like the look of a sissy bar but the GF won't have it any other way. With the one in this thread you could take the actual sissy bar off in seconds and leave the mounting plate and still retain the "stock" look of the bike. With the HD Duece it is a little more involved to take it off. Would really love to see pics of it on. -Josh

Yoshi I remember yours, and I considered it. Thing is the majority of the time I ride solo, and I either mount the fender rack or leave the fender bare all together. This way I could completely remove the whole thing! No holes.

I was doing some further research into this and was wondering what sissy bar you used and where you got it from. Part # would be even better. I've been looking on ebay but it looks like most of them are wider than the 6 5/8 outside to outside diameter that fits the plug n play. Aslo if you have some pictures yet I would really love to see them.

Probably the third time around for this revelation. I put the plug and play on my Speedmaster a couple years ago, the JJ model, fit like it was made for the bike. Did mount the quick release for the seat, was not solid enough with out it. I did redrill the bracket to rotate it forward on the fender, it was leaning to far back to be useful in the stock holes. The passenger was off the end of the seat, works quite well now.

Sorry about the delay guys, Apparantley i have lost the camera ( My wife really did ). i have taken some photos with my phone and are starting my gallery which i will have completed tomorrow. the quality wont be terribly good but you will get the general idea. There have been comments made on the sturdiness or possibility of the sissybar falling off. I came back from a 480k ride yesterday with the missus with no problems. i forgot to mention that where you bolt it into the front ( single seat ) mount there is a hole on each side of the bracket that line up with the unthreaded holes in the guard also. in effect you could have three bolts holding it from the front, its not going anywhere. It does slope back a bit but i dont think really anymore than any other sissybar. we dont use the speedy seat with her on the back, only if i am carrying luggage. I have Brents solo saddle and use the America passenger pad and Sissybar for her and she loves it. Sorry again for the delay, they are coming.

Finally, lots of pics are posted in my gallery with discriptions. pics should answer any questions but to clarify, there are three holes at the front mounting point. they all line up with the three holes ( one threaded and two unthreaded ) in our rear guard so you could mount it with three bolts at the front if you could be bothered to reach under and put nuts on. if you did this then its not going anywhere. i only mount it with a single bolt at the front and have never had any problems carrying the missus or luggage. It does appear to lean back a bit but its not as dramatic as it appears. The wife had no issues with it but the passenger pad seems to work best with her. the speedy seat didnt cut it for big days. Anyway have a look at my members gallery and let me know what you think, thanks everyone.
