A new store opened here in Ft. Lauderdale over the weekend. It's called Total Wine and is evidently all up and down the East Coast. They have over one thousand beers!! Yep, one thousand different beers!!! Beers from everywhere. I walked around with my jaw on the floor. I've never had it so good! I showed some restraint and only came home with 2 cases of Newcastle, a case of Samuel Smith Taddy Porter, and a case of Fuller's London Porter. Prices were cheaper than anywhere else in town and they were not already chilled! I didn't have to stuff everything in a fridge! I have never had the Fuller's but I may have found a new favorite. Absolutely delicious! I cannot wait to try these: Czech (Baltika #4 & Klaster Dark), Irish (Beamish & Smithwick), Australian (Coopers), Belgian (Gouden/Lindeman/de Boomgaard), and Scottish (Bellhaven & Orkney) ...and that's just a few!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life is good

No shops in Tennessee. booo hooo. How was the Fuller's London Porter. Thats a new one on me. London Pride has always been on of my favorites, and while in Houston last month the donwtown Flying Saucer had Fullers ESB on tap. yum yum

It's excellent Mark, at least on par with Smith's Taddy Porter. Now I don't care if I ever taste any beer out of Canandaigua, NY!!

Phil, Do they carry any McEwan's beers. The McEwan's 80 is great, but only 1 or 2 will due since it is over 9% alcohol. If they do let me know, next time I am down that way I will stop and get some. Tom

One Thousand beers and you only try one unknown? Taddys and Broooon Ales are available already.
The Taddy's go for about $3.69 per pint up here at the local ABSleeze. New 'Astle Broooon Ale goes for about $11.50 a twelver at the Publix. Samuel Smith makes an Imperial Stout you should try.
With 997 more beers, sounds like you will be leaving Mr. Williams be for a while.

If they have it, try Tooheys Old. Wonderful stuff, even better than The One and Only.

Good one Larry Sadly, no McEwan's Tom. I will why ask next trip... The only Widmer they have is their Hefeweizen, Soren. Again, I will ask why. AND, no Tooheys Old! Cooper's and Fosters (ugh). Jeez, I am going to have a lot of why nots! Moe, I know. I should be ashamed of myself! We were there on a fast track to pick up Margarita fixings and spent darn near an hour. The next time will be a PURE beer run, I promise! btw, Newcastle is 10.99 a 12-pack, the Taddy was 7.49 for the 4-pack, and the Fullers was 8.49 for a six. The best part is that they are not pre-chilled.

"In Heaven there is no Beer That's why we drink it here And When we're gone from here Our friends will be drinking all the Beer" I know it's old, but I grew up & was weaned hearing that on TV on Sunday morning polka shows and every summer Saturday night attending weddings at the Caroline Ballroom while drinking 10oz bottles of coke and dancing with older women with powdery cheeks. It's amazing I turned out so normal. Recorded by any group with an accordian and a tuba player. The song is mostly about cheap local labels like Adler Brau, Schmidt's (animal beer) and Old Milwaukee. JH

Thanks for this beer information. I am going to go to the Fort Lauderdale Motorcycle show this weekend. The beer store sounds like a worthwhile side trip.

Just in case, here's where it is Lyle.
South on US1 to 17th Street East. Two traffic lights is Cordova Road. Go right and it is to the left of the Publix.
From the Ft. Lauderdale Motorcycle Show, go north out of the Convention Center out onto 17th Street and go left. Cordova Road is the next light (might be two).

I brought home four cases of their Blackberry Wheat when I was in Vt. I went to the brewery so that I could get some that were not refrigerated. It is one of my favorites. I don't have any of the Blackberry Wheat left, all gone. Can't get it in Florida. I still have a couple of cases of Double Bag left. The Double Bag is so strong that it is a beer to drink only if you don't have anything that you want to accomplish during the day.

Gritty McDuffs in Freeport Maine makes some fine beer also. The food at this place is out of this world also. If you ever get there, you gotta get the Lobster stew, Gawd, can't get any better. Gotta be the Maine seafood that makes it all taste better. TR

Do they carry Gennesee 12 Horse Ale. I grew up on it in west. New York back in the 60's. Was up there last June was told It only comes out at X-Mas. I would drive my little P/U down there and load up.
I was so much older then, I am younger than that now (Wrote By Dylan Sung by the BYRDS,)

We have a good local liquor store, but nothing like that. I had my first beer in over a month last night, a Spaten Oktoberfest...one of my favorite beers. My wife bought a couple of 6 packs at Trader Joe's the other day. I was just over at the Spaten website and noticed that they're having a Beer Festival in Ft Lauderdale on April 8th. You going Phil? "100 BEERS! 25 RESTAURANTS! 4 LIVE BANDS! ONE AMAZING NIGHT!" How can you pass that up?

we have something similar here, although with only a measley 150+ beers, and sometimes I almost hate going there, because it's so ****** hard making a decision. I go in thinking one think, and then spy something I hadn't seen before, and next thing you know, I'm floating around the aisles in one hell of a conundrum. I feel bad if I pick one, cause there's 2 or 3 others I want just as bad (but my wallet isn't THAT fat!)

Total Wine is the greatest source I have ever been to. Living in the socialist state of Pennsylvania, where the liquor is controlled by the state is awful. Wine and spirits can only be bought in a state-controlled liquor store. Six packs only at a bar or "bottle shop". Cases of beer at a beer distributor (who can't sell you a six pack!) Luckily, I am within 8 miles of the Delaware border and the most awesome total wine store that you could imaging. It is a converted supermarket. Even better, there is no sales tax in Delaware. IT'S ALL GOOD!
I am a big fan of the Newcastle, but try the Samual Smith's Nut Brown Ale. Could possibly be the greatest glass of beer I've ever had. Enjoy.

Mass has similar weird laws, the best of which being that if you are close enough to the NH border, some of the rules don't apply!! So strange..

State run liquor stores aren't usually any good. I know, I used to live in Idaho where they had them. But they can sometimes be beneficial if you're looking for an elusive bottle of spirits. Often some of the distillers don't have distributors of their liquor in fairly open states like Arizona, but sometimes a state run liquor store can order you just about anything. Or at least that's what I've heard.
And most places I've found online that you can order from, won't ship to cetain states...Arizona being one of them. Or if I can find a place that sells it in Arizona, it'll be up in Phoenix which is 120 miles from here. I'm a big bourbon fan, but even the best liquor store in Tucson only has at most 6 or so different top shelf bourbons. If I want something like Van Winkle or George T Stagg, it's going to be tough to get.

I love Tooheys Old. I grew up 20 minuts from the Brewery. Then when I worked on the Railway we use to pick tucks from there and there was always a carton for the lucky ones who did the Christmas shipment. You yanks be careful though Aussie Beer is generally a lot stronger than your local stuff. Coopers is good as well. If you want something strog try a Boags from Tasmania that stuff is potent. Do they have XXXX (4X) Queensland's own. An aquired taste but the true taste of the sunshine state. (Apart from Bundy Rum that is - Bundaberg Rum, Bundaberg Rum, Tans your insides and puts hair on your Bum)

I had a pretty good day today. I started the day at the motorcycle show in Fort Lauderdale. It was fair. Mostly made up of choppers and highly customized bikes. They had very intricate and detailed paint jobs. Lots of chrome and alot of interesting bikes to look at. I should have brought my camera. Very few production bikes. There were some Triumphs along with Honda and Ducati. Unfortunately, the bikini contest isn't until tomorrow. I was a bit disappointed when I found that out. I am sure that the hot dog eating contest that took place today could not hold a candle to the bikini contest. Then I visited Total Wine that Phil mentioned in this link. It was the most amazing wine and liquor store that I have ever seen. About the size of a supermarket. I came home with a number of different wines and beers. The largest selection by far that I have ever seen in one place. Phil, thanks for posting the information on that place. It will be a regular destination when in Ft Lauderdale. Then I went to the new Triumph dealer called Pure Triumph. Real large showroom with a good number of bikes and other stuff. Wandered around there for awhile. All in all a pretty nice day, even if I wasn't riding.
