So bike started missing and eventually dead on one cylinder. Did the basic diagnosis and it was ruled out to be the CDI unit, no problem bought a new sparker unit and installed it. One cylinder still dead.

Talked to mechanic and he is confused, well he is fired now.

Diagnosed bike, starting from spark plug, ok. Then moved to wires, no cracks, check resistance. Well low and behold one wire 4.88 ohms, other wire 210 ohms. Manual tells me should be appx 5 ohms.

Anyone has a spare to check this out.

Thanks,

Switch the wires to see if the miss firing cylinder follows the bad wire.

You can pick up wires at any automotive shop.

Well found a spare, had a spare coil and wire. That one ohmmed out at 5.10 ohms so it was good.

Bike fire right up on both cylinders.

glad you got it sorted, sucks you had to drop coin on an unneeded ignitor though

Yes it does, but here is what I noticed.

Bike sounds more aggressive and it has a more crisp throttle.

Only mods it has are:
1 - K&N filter and snorkel removed
2 - Long Triumph pipes debaffled

So the $ 230.00 for a new Sparker TCIP4 was not bad. Got it directly from manufacturer.

I will compare it to the stock one when weather conditions are better.

230.00 is fairly cheap insurance for a spare igniter. If you're prone to long trips with other BA riders, stow it on the bike for a spare. you prob'ly won't have any issues with the aftermarket one though. The signs of a CDI going out are usually very erratic behavior.
