I had 2 claims on my policy within a year. Dropped a demo bike and then in Oct. went down after the Ar rally. I get a call from my agent yesterday. Uh...State Farm is not going to renew your bike policies on your T-bird and TBA. But they just raised your rates on the car and you get to keep that policy, oh by the way, happy holidays. Yeah right. I've had Bronchitis through the holidays, healing from a broken arm plus about $800 out of pocket medical expenses due to the broken arm. Now this. Who is your insurance carrier and how old does your bike have to be before you all go to just liability instead of full coverage? Oh yeah Happy Holidays!

Dang, sorry about all that. I think we've all been there at some point, wondering whether to file a claim and risk a rate increase or just pay out of pocket.
An insurance rule of thumb is this- never insure something you can replace easily within your means. If a bike or car is worth only 3 or 4 K it would be prudent to just carry liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist .

Insurance companies are bast****s, everybody knows that. The only criteria I know is that the bank requires you to have full coverage on any thing you owe money on. Unless the amount is really low, then sometimes they will let you drop coverage and one just has to carry liability. This sort of thing happened to us a couple of years ago. We had the same insurance co. (Pekin) for 26 years, with only a couple of minor claims, never our fault. Then, the wife had an accident (First one in her life!) and they cancelled us. I was pretty mad about it. Here's what ya do. Just simply go to another company. Don't even think about continuing coverage with your old co. They don't have any loyalty, so you shouldn't either. Odds are, a different co. will pick you up and the rate might even be cheaper than what you WERE paying. Really, people change co.s all the time. And if you're worried about your "record", the way I hear it, is, a new insurance co will probably think that you had your accident in this decade. Probably not gonna happen again anytime soon. They play the odds, too. Seriously, look around, get a new co. and don't sweat it.

Geico has always had the best rates for me. But any new insurer is going to know about your claims with State Farm. Good luck!

Been back and forth from Progressive to Geico for liability only, they both try to raise the rate each year for no claims. about 75 USD per year until the second year.... So I look for another.

That's $85 for both bikes combined or about $42.50 each.

I have Car ins. thru USAA but they don't cover mc in VA.
They have a deal with Progressive and I am happy with that.
My annual cost is 89 dollars a yr with $1000 deductible and no medical. Also crashed in 2012 with no increase !

I'm thinking about switching to Foremost when my current policy is up. The insurance company I have now sent me a refund check in mine and my deceased wife's name. When I took it to them to get it in my name only so that my bank would cash it they told me to go to their bank and forge her name and cash it there. They didn't want to take the trouble of doing it right. I refused and they eventually reissued the check in my name only. I don't need that kind of insurance company.

Finally decided on Progressive. I'll have to pay around $372 a year for 2 bikes. Hopefully it will go down if I am accident free for a couple of years. Foremost was ridiculous. They were wanting about $1100 per year.

USAA has decided to price themselves out of the motorcycle market. Once they started covering enlisted personnel their motorcycle claims went way up as young kids were buying Hayabusas and such. I'd had USAA on my previous bikes but when I bought the America in 2004 the quote was completely out of line. I went with American Family and later with Nationwide.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I have GEICO,$250.00 per year. I had a claim two years ago, price did not go up and the service was excellent. I actually got more than it cost for the repair.

Dang Keith! It's a wonder you can afford to ride. The bikes cost more to begin with, then they rip you with high insurance rates.

My Marine nephew told me that when his unit returned from Iraq and Afghanistan a huge number of the single guys purchased crotch rockets and were wrecking them like mad. Seems they still needed the excitement. So your theory is probably correct.

Sorry Keith, I couldn't resist.

Holy insurance scam, Batman! When I bought the Indian last year, my insurance co. ripped me for close to $800 for full coverage and I about puked! Since then, I've checked around and I'm hoping to buy from another company this year for around $300.

GEICO. $146 per year. 2 bikes, full coverage. 12 months of riding.

OTOH, they want over $600 for the 150cc China scoot. Probably due to theft concern. It would cost more to insure than it's worth, but fortunately, motorcycle insurance is not mandatory here. I did about 20 miles on that bike yesterday in the rain. 50 mph on 10" wheels. Had a blast.

And your lucky to find a company up that will insure you for any thing less than a year at a time.

I know my Daytona is around 80 a year, I think liability on the America is about 120 or so, it went up after my wreck. I can't get full coverage on it again until I get it re-certified by the highway patrol

I remember a few insurance companies that would only insure for a 6 month period and required proof of garaging for the other 6. Haven't run into that in a long time but I have had my same company for years.
