My neighbor has one on order (sight unseen), and we went to the dealer to take a look at the first one they got in a week or so ago. It wasn't his, but it was the same color. It was on the showroom floor, and the sales guy was nice enough to let my neighbor and I sit on it. My first impressions of this bike are very positive, with high quality paint, parts, and chrome used in the construction. I don't care much for the stock pipes, but it ain't my bike, and I'm sure someone is already working on aftermarkets. Sitting on the bike reminded me a LOT of a Speedy/America in seat height and overall balance. The Scout has somewhat forward controls like the Speedy, but the handlebars are wider.

When I was putting the bike back on its sidestand, the damn thing folded back on me, and down I went - right in front of my neighbor and the sales guy, who were on the righthand side and couldn't catch my fall. Fortunately, the showroom is a Pergo type material, so the only damage was bending the clutch lever ($25.00) and bruising my ego. Isn't it amazing that dropping a stationary bike happens in slow motion and NEVER without someone watching you do it???

The dealer also had its first Slingshot in, so we also checked that out whilst there. I HAD an interest in this machine until I got in it. Entry and egress on the driver side requires some contortions to maneuver past the side protection bars. Once in, it was fine. The Slingshot design reminded me of what a three wheel Lamborghini would be like. It's very angular, and my taste runs toward a more rounded design on my vehicles.

Anyway, if any of you guys get the chance, I recommend that you check out the Scout as well as the Slingshot if they have both in.

Yep, 0 MPH accidents are always a pain.

I think the Scout is the motorcycle Triumph forgot to make.

My only time getting in and out of a Slingshot was at the New York motorcycle show. To say I had an audience is an understatement.

I was proud I didn't do a faceplant, rip my pants or do anything else stupid. I'm guessing it would take some practice to look cool getting in and out of a Slingshot.

First, you dropped the dealership's brand new Scout (probably the only one they had) right in front of the salesman. Any part damaged might take a while to get, I know it was only $25 but did he tell you what his service department was going to charge in labor?
Second, we all know it happens but you actually told everyone about it! That's like farting in an elevator then raising your hand and claiming responsibility.

HEY! Great hearing from you, John!

I demo-ed one of new Scouts a while back and found it a very competent machine with great power and reasonably good handling, though I also found I could scrape the pegs much too early during the process of leaning it into turns much sooner than I had hoped.

(...I also thought it a rather "small" bike in its overall dimensions, as once I returned back to my BA after my demo ride, even my Triumph seemed "big")

A few others have said that it seems a little small. I sat on one at my dealer a few weeks back and didn't get that impression. However, I didn't ride it, so maybe that is a different experience. I'm really waiting for the Slingshot to appear. The only bad thing I hear about it is that it is hard to get into. Maybe I'll demo it, but I might not. I kinda have a policy not to demo anything I am definately not going to buy. One thing I difinately agree with. The America was a bike that was "just right" size wise.

Virginia finally got it's first Indian motorcycle dealership recently and I stopped by yesterday to look at the Scout in person. Nice bike. Different. The one they had was a dark dull red kind of like glossy primer color, I suppose its part of the "nostalgia" look. I did notice something that may have contributed to the accidental kick-stand drop described above. The stand is extremely far back, the pivot point being behind the drive sprocket and as far aft on the frame as possible. It seems the unusual location would take some getting used to even the Indian Chief's stand is in a "normal" location forward.

The dealership sells Polaris products ATVs, Victory, Indian and Slingshot. They had 8 Chiefs, 1 Scout and 1 Slingshot and a bunch of various Victorys. There were 3 hold tags the Scout, the Slingshot and 1 Victory bagger.

I did not drop any of his bikes. I was the only customer in the building on a Saturday morning.

The Indy dealership called me to let me know a couple of orders came in. I didn't get a chance to eyeball them, but I am tempted.

They sell Triumphs too, and I was very disappointed with the appearance of the new America. I may just wait until the Expo in February, to look them over.

Get a Triumph Thunderbird or Storm. Not that much more cash than a Scout and much more bike.

Here's another shot of the kick stand. It does look to be in a very odd location.

I've also read of few times that people think Polaris did a great job of masking the radiator. hmmm, to me every time I see a picture of the bike my eyes are drawn to the radiator. It's like the biggest part of the bike. I've got a water cooled bike so it's not like I'm opposed to the concept.

the radiator shroud looking part is actually the downtubes of the frame, you can't do anything to change the way it looks like painting the plastic shrouds on the T-Bird

LOL oh you are gonna hate what i am doing to my storm then Dave, instead of hiding what is there i decided to put chrome all around the dam thing LOL, its a water cooled bike...so be it. :-)
