A company named "Eastwood" sells header paint they rate as accepting 1200F. I have a couple of cans on hand but haven't actually tested it yet. web page

It will work, however you'll probably end up doing a recoat once a year or so.

As already noted, very high temp paint will work. I left the double walled / chromed outer skin in place. Scuffed, prepped, painted & baked mine about 1&1/2 years ago. Has held up better than I expected. Have since read about the Eastwood paints and that looks like a good product. Ceramic coating would likely be better but for the cost, paint works just fine for me.

I have just brought a ceramic can of paint, says it will handle up to 2000F ... touch dry in 15 mins , needs to be heated to 300C for a hour to cure, have just had the headers blasted ... if i heated them up,sprayed them , then waited overnight for them to semi cure .... bolted them on the bike and left it idiling for a hour , would that work ???

The paint needs to be baked on to cure. Paint the cleaned headers, bake in the oven for an hour or so at at least 350 degrees (seems my can said 500 first and again at 350). Let cool. Bake again if desired at lower heat. Let cool, several hours best but at least cool to touch Install and ride.

Know anybody with a pizza oven? Actually, I believe your headers broken down will fit in your kitchen oven, you may have to get creative about how they are placed as the part actually resting against a surface may develop a blem from contact. C clamps or some stiff wire should work. BTW, you may get a heck of a stink at first when you bake your pipes, so maybe you should send your significant shopping or something.

i've done the ceramic paint before and baked in my kitchen oven, at 350 it did not smell at all actually, i think i baked them for an hour and a half then cooled then again for 45 minutes then cooled , put on the bike and off i went.

This thread is both interesting and quite comical. I laughed, I learned and now I might even give this painting/baking a shot. Better yet, maybe we should all invest in the idea of an Easy Bake Oven for adults for just this reason?...ha
