Just out of curiosity I was wondering at what kind of mileage everyone else was at when their CDI failed. Mine crapped out just after I rolled 40,000 and I just replaced my regulator/rectifier 2 months back after I turned 50,000.

2006 865 Neon Blue/Jet Black Speedmaster,790cams, TTP Stage 2 Firestarter, Epco Exhaust with 10.25" Samson Vrod baffles, UNI pods with 40 pilots, 150 mains,Thruxton needles, 3 turns out.

Rectifier / regulator burned up at 47000, CDI and or coils shortly after that.

Coils and plug wires are next up on my list to replace. I figure that I better go ahead and swap them out before they cause an issue.

mine went pretty early may 12-15,000 miles. past the 2 year warrantee, but the dealer still replaced it. No problems with that one.

FWIW - I do have a Pro com as well that periodically gets switched back and forth with the Gill CDI as I chase various performance ideas.

1st igniter failed at 17290 mi., 2nd at 18111mi., 3rd at 26400 mi., 4th at 26700 mi. Triumph said, if I paid for a pickup coil, both coils and wires and a turn signal switch they would pay for the igniter but this would be the last free igniter. All other igniters were replaced free of charge. My dealer goofed and sent my spare igniter, from Pinwell, back to Triumph instead of the bad one. Triumph couldn't find it so they sent me a new one. All has run well since the last igniter, I now have 43000 mi. on her.

On one of them I swear the cdi was on its way out since day one,it has been replacedat about 25000km.On the other my cdi got about 39000km.then done, just like that.No warning just the one cylinder firing. On the other bike it would act up intermittently.

Funny the dealers never mention this issue when you are buying, but, when you come back with an issue, no matter how long out, it's: 'Oh yea, they all do that, it's just electronics failing, like any other part."

It's not "just electronics failing", it's bad component location! It must be somewhere in the region of 7 to 10:1 that America/Speedmaster igniter units fail compared to Bonnie/Thrux/Scrambler igniter units. Same component, one gets hot above the engine the other stays cool under the seat.

About 55,000km (34,000mi) on my 2005 Speedmaster, almost straight after replacing the pickup coil. I've had the bike since 19,000km (12,000mi) so can't say whether it's the original one or not. Now have a Procom, bout about a month before I started to read about the Ignitech ones...

The cdi was replaced on my '05 America at 59,000 miles. This was after replacing the left coil 400 miles earlier. Sadly, the coil replacement didn't stop the misfiring. So, a Procom was installed (a process of elimination) and it lasted for a few hundred miles then crapped out. It was sent back as defective and replaced. The new Procom may have a 100 miles on it. It's been too cold to ride. Don't know if all issues are solved yet. Also, the mechanic said the pickup coil was fine.

Did he test the pick up coil on the bike at room temp? Or did he get it good and hot and test it too? A member here had one test good cold but he heated it and as it heated up it failed.

104K+ on my '04, and to my knowledge, I have not suffered a CDI failure.

Igniter, Coils, Rectifier, yes, yes, yes, all spread out over time.

Wendys CDI failed early though now that I think of it. I put a Procom on hers around 13,000 miles I think.

Well 57,000 out of your Procom is encouraging since that is what I replaced mine with. The TTP Firestarter wasn't available yet when mine failed. I know some people do not seem to like them but I have not had any problems with mine.
