Years ago, I fabbed a plate to cover the oil filter. Not that hard. A one eighth thick plate, about the size of your hand, slightly bent convex to clear the filter. Four little ears sticking out from the back and front corners, welded, hose clamps went around the ears and frame tubes to keep in place. Simple, really. I thought a few times that I could fab some up and sell them on here, but there is never enough time.

The best thing about this is, if a rock or whatever did make a puncture, you can roll the shim stock and make a submarine patch and get home. [image]http:// [/image]

Why ya can't just put a beer coozey over your filter and use a band clamp to be a preventative if ya have a chronic problem where you ride
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

The chrome filter cover from a Rocket III will fit right over the filter as long as it isn't a K&N or other with the nut welded on the end.

With a Chrome cover you wouldn't get embarrassed when Homeland Security checks your bike for bombs with one of those mirrors on a stick.

I was looking at a Rocket filter cover web page and what the heck keeps it on the filter? The $25 wouldn't bother me so much, unless I got off the bike and it was missing 'cause it fell off somewhere..

It is a tight friction fit. The cover has several spring metal strips inside the cover, that interfere with the filter/cover fit, providing the friction to stay in place. You really need to pull to get it off the front of the Rocket.
