I was about 3/4 mile from the house a few minutes ago. As I was turning right, a sportbike pulled up behind me when the light was turning green. I took off and ran the half mile hard through a couple sweepies to the next light and turned on my right signal. The bike pulled up beside me and said, "My God, what is that"? I told him it was an 800cc twin, and he couldn't believe it.
He said, "I can outrun anything on the road, but I could barely gain on you after I realized you were gettin' on it." I told him Triumph made a 675cc triple that he could not run away from. He said he believes it. He was on a Hayabusa. Is my bike fast??? I didn't think so - but he did. He said, "I have to check out the Triumph line, that is the most gorgeous cruiser I've seen."
Ride Safe,
Dennis

More than likely the guy just can't run fast thru corners... A Busa would eat you for lunch on a straight away!! Lots of those sport bike guys know how to drag but not ride. But yeah, it's fast

Never rode anything else, but wonder if I COULD (or WOULD) ride anything else this hard, ALL THE TIME! Do other people ride their cruisers this hard all the time? Or is it just these bikes? I don't know what taking it easy means!

Yes, it is.
I dont ride very hard (not skilled enough yet) but have ridden with a bunch of other crusies and can keep up (or ahead) of those bigger cruisers. I have ridden with other Speedmasters and Americas and have a tough time keeping up (because of my skill level). You would think that Speedracer, BikerThug and BrianPDX were all clones of Valentino Rossi they way that they handle our bikes.

It's fast alright. My Speedy does the twisties very well also. I have often thought it would be fun to have a vidio of going up the Chumstick road, the upper end is very twisty with one 200 degree turn, and adding Duane Eddy doing Bob Dylan to it. Dave

If you don't know the front from the back of a helmet, you shouldn't be riding any kind of 2-wheel bike!

I have a full face Shoei, and a 1/2 Skid Lid (for when it's really hot). I've got to get me one of them 3/4's! That looks quite comfortable. Charlie

Is your Triumph fast? No, but neither are my Triumphs. How in the world did you outrun a sportbike with 155 HP at the rear wheel? 05 Hayabusa, 318 HP at the wheel with 12 PSI.

Mad, I'm not a sport bike rider/fan and probably never will be, but every time you post a pic of that 'Busa of yours, I get...well, let's just say bloodflow increases in certain areas of my anatomy...that IS a sexy machine!

As Mad and many others said, it is impossible to outrun a sports on a straight line (drag)- this is not where the America works well.
It does work well when these factors coincide
1:twisties
2:America/Speedy seasoned confident rider
3:Sports bike with a not so confident rider.
My friend has recently purchased a kawasaki z100. he has been out of biking for 2 years and was a little rusty.
He licked me on the straights as he should have done- his bike has 150bhp or more.
On the bends, the combination, mentioned above played to my favour and will do the same for you.
He got off his bike with a bag of excuses- I was just pleased he was back to biking- the tables will eventually turn to his favour as his skill returns to its usual high.
The only diference will then be the bikes....but if we wanted sports performance- we would have bought sports bikes.
Keep up your riding and skills
Im really happy with the Bonneville America- although I have never sized upto another cruiser/HD or otherwise
Other cruiser stories I would be interested in

I still don't see how a 50 RWHP cruiser can outrun a 150 RWHP sportbike of ANY make? It just doesn't make sense.
Maybe if the sportbike rider had no experience at all in motorcycle riding and was afraid to use the throttle. But if that were so, he would probably already be dead in light of his 150 HP.
Maybe I guess if the cruizer rider was riding like a sportbike rider and the sportbike rider was riding like a cruizer? It don't make no sense. Dale

my 2001 Bonneville was faster than my 04 America. Didn't buy her for the speed though.

I've seen some guys on some REAL fast bikes it the brakes REAL hard before some real easy corners... Accellerating and CARRYING speed thru the corners are two different things!

Yeah, your probably right Benny. But man, there's got to be at least one straightaway somwhere? LOL
Busa's ain't the greatest corner carvers cause they are so long and low, but a GSXR 1000 would destroy any Triumph, including all of my Triumph crotch rockets.
