My Dad passed away this week. For over 12 months he had been fighting cancer. He went in his sleep on Wednesday morning. He was not a mad keen rider like me. Yet it was him who said I should get a bike when I first needed transport. He had previously sent me a photo of his bike. I had known for years that he had owned a little Trumpy. I had always thought it was a Tiger Cub. 2 weeks ago he told me it had a 150cc engine. So its a Terrier not a Cub. He took this photo of his bike in January 1955. .jpg) Today on ebay my sister found a Terrier for sale. So in memory of our Dad we have bought this bike. I shall get it going and my sister can own it and ride it.

So sad to hear about the passing of your dad. It sounds like you guys were close. I think the idea to put the Trumpy on the road in honor of your dad is fantastic.

Condolences, WnRn. I can't imagine a better way to remember your father than working on the bike and watching the joy it brings your sister when you've finished and she begins to ride it. And, since it's a '55 Terrier, you'll both be able to repeat the cycle of "repair and ride" frequently. Seriously though, the bike looks fantastic.
Post some more pics to show us your progress...

So sorry to hear about your dad, don't know how close you were but I miss mine everyday and he's been with God for 12 yrs . It's easier but but it's a void that never go's away. So I understand and I think anyone who has lost theirs understands. As to that bike WOW a cub is rare but a terrier? They are impossibly rare !! So glad you found it and that it will be ridden in rememberence ! What a way to honor him !! I only wish I could find and afford a 48 Indian so I could do the same !! Maybe you might think about getting a good pinstriper to write in rememberence somewhere on it ?? Wish you lived nearby so I could get a close up and a listen. I had a Cub a very long time ago and have always wanted another .
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

A thoughtful way for you and your sister to remember your dad, and share those memories.
May this bike live forever, so those memories may never fade.
My sincere condolences.

Lost my dad last December. He never really owned a full size bike, but he always admired mine. That is the coolest thing I've heard in a while, getting a bike like dads' and riding it in memorial. Very good on you and your sister!

I can remember seeing my dad ride my gsx250 back in the early 80s. He took it up the road and back again. No helmet.
My sister was dad's carer and it is only fitting that she gets to keep this bike.
The engine turns over. It does not fire up as it needs a wiring harness. Why that is not in place I don't know yet. It is in Lid ombré and will be transported to Chester Hill to my parents place. We have bought this unseen. Just from the photos.
I intend to get it up here so I can work on it. I have an old school friend up Singleton way who restores Brit bikes. He will be is enlisted to help with this bike.
I would like that the patina stays. Just make sure the engine runs, changes gears and electrics work.
I know that Dad would have looked at this with fond memories. He rode his to Mt Druitt to the bike races there in the 50s.
When I bought this bike on eBay this arvo I cried like a baby. ****** I miss dad so much.

Really cool bike, I will never understand why people are so down on Lucas. I have run Lucas stuff for years trouble free. The mags run for 50+ years with nothing but point and brush maintenance. The downfall of the Lucas system was over complicated and poorly made wiring harness. Simplify and make your own and they work fine. I have the Lucas system on my chopper that I made the harness for and it has been trouble free for the last 20+ years aside from point maintenance and an occasional advance unit. The generators weren't great but neither were the ones on HD or any other of those old bikes.
