So i killed my iphone 5, totally killed it ,pretty much after i backed it up and updated to io8 . my question to you iphonians and assorted techies, can i load my back up file on my itunes on to my old iphone 3GS .basically i want my pictures and phone contacts , but not sure how to go about this without buying a new iphone (not gonna happen as i just bought a Samsung G5 ,sure they'll be ??s about that soon enough ). so anyways ,is there an easy way to get at that back up info . any and all info is appreciated.

Apple provides free telephone support for a year after purchase. Does your iPhone 5 qualify? If so ask them for some help with your stuff.

The answer should be yes you can move the contacts from the IPhone backup to the GS and the pics. The IOS won't be compatible though.

My contacts backup is an app you can put on the iphone to handle this for you. It will make a contacts list you can save that is compatible with importing the contacts into any phone.

You should be ok. You backed up your iPhone before upgrading to iOS8, which means the backup will be iOS7 which is supported by the 3GS, in know 'cos I have a 3GS with iOS 7 on it.

Just set up your phone and use the latest backup to sync your old iPhone and it should be fine.

Thanks lads ,appreciate it . i didnt want to try an back up to my old phone then lose all my pics etc , grandaughter n wife pics that i would be pissed if i lost. i will give it a shot later on today.

Well the updating to the 3gs didnt work.it will update but only to a previous date back in 2012. I can see the date i backed up the 5 , on the 20th , i can highlight it and when i try to back up it only shows dates from 2012. Not sure what to do now. Any ideas would be appreciated .

Did you update iTunes to the latest version lately?

Dont remember doing that Jeff,but i may have. I do get an update message when i plugin the 3GS but its for ios6.something. I do see the date i backed up the phone but when it restores the phone its using an older backup date. Should i update the os first then try the restore.

If your 3GS is still on iOS 5, that may be a reason why it's not compatible. Yep, you can safely update your 3GS to iOS 6 and then try to restore data and contacts with a sync.

A buddy who is very IPhone/pad savvy updated to Ios8 (Hates it) but missed the deadline by one day to go back to 7.
