Nah, not me this time. My favorite uncle. Two weekends ago, on a group ride with my two uncles and a cousin, a big deer charged out of a cornfield and jumped OVER my Uncle and his bike. He didn't make it all the way over though, and clipped the rear trunk and my uncles shoulder on his way over. Nearly knocked him over and the deer did a roll on the other side of the road and kept going. Scared the hell out of him, as you might expect. Now, yesterday, he slammed and "t boned" a smaller doe while on a short ride to see his brother. He was riding an old 750 Suzuki and nearly cut the deer in half. Totaled the bike, but he wound up with just cuts and bruises. He said he could hear the helmet go "thumpity thump" a few times on the road. He's kinda scared off bikes for a while (go figure!)and I'm thinking about riding to a dealer ship today to purchase a better helmet! I can't go the full face type, but HD has a cool looking reg type with a flip down internal shade. (My HD riding buddy laughed his head off when I tried it on at the store three weeks ago, but then he doesn't wear a helmet at all) (Yeah, it's kind of "star wars" like, looks like the helmet Luke wore in the first one attacking the death star.) But I kinda liked it. I've only been wearing a helmet regular for about 6 years now and couldn't stand anything more than a half helmet. But this deer thing is getting to me! Have I ever said this before on here?, STINKING DEER!

yeah, I used to wear a 1/2 or a 3/4 at times but after my close encounter of a deer kind it's been a full-face all the time.

I have a flip face HJC with the internal dark visor that slides down. It sorta reminds me of the flight helmet I wore in the Navy. A woman here locally was dumped off her bike a few weeks ago and landed on her face while wearing a half helmet and sunglasses. Lots of reconstructive surgery in her future.
My face may not be much but it's the only one I have and I'd rather keep it intact than have it rearranged by the asphalt.
We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

One of those giant rats casually walked out into the road in front of me today but with lots of room to brake and toot my very loud horn which caused it to scamper off. They are stupid animals, but taste great!

Just touched base with my Uncle again today. He was wearing a leather jacket which was a good thing, he scraped one sleeve nearly off and into the shirt he was wearing under it! He's thinking of leaving the riding alone. He's 65 and said he doesn't heal as fast as he used to. He sprained an ankle but is gonna be ok. He is wondering if the sound of the bike is such that it is attracting deer, cause of the two in two weeks thing. I said that I doubt it. Oh well, he didn't really ride that much anyway.

Yikes... my nemesis. Deer, elk, moose, bear and the odd rabbit are constantly there in my peripheral vision just waiting to cut me off. And although I appreciate the threat to life and limb out there, I still opt for a scoot through my mountainous playground over a bicycle machine in the livingroom.
Live to love, love to live.

We don't see too many deer.....just those pesky moose. I don't know how many times I've seen them at night on the side of the road especially when the mosquitoes are out. That's why I try and put as much light on the highway as I can....kind of like Keith's ride.

I've had more dogs run out in front of me, or just out at me, than deer

I too have had close calls with deer at night but when you hit an armadillo it's nasty. I wish those armadillos would go back to Texas where they belong. I went back to wearing a full helmet after too many close calls with all the country critters.
'06 America, Raask foot controls, the bike use to be Graphite and Silver, now its Red and Black.

Greggor as humorous as that Vespa looks I think any deer would stop dead in it's tracks approached by those lumens. Darn thing would think its the light at the end of the tunnel and just give in.
