Leaving for LA in 18 hours, for 5 weeks. Spending the first fortnight in LA with my youngest son and his wife. Probably get up to Vegas for a few days after that. Was going to spend more time with the kids, but he just got a gig in London that wasn't on the cards when we booked. Open to some suggestions, and possibly catching up with some of you. It's good to be able to put faces to names.

Get on hwy 49 in California and go north along the western Sierras. Yosemite is a definite stop. So is the Tahoe area.

So Bill. How far east do you plan on goin' here? You said you guys were headed to Vegas, but are you also possibly considering a visit to the Grand Canyon? And if so, Sedona is just a 2 1/2 hour drive south from there, ya know. (...it'd be great to see ya, and the beer would be on me!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Hey Dwight, still working out our options. But thanks very much for the offer. Will see what we can do. All our previous plans flew out the window when Trent got the offer for London.

If you are going to Vegas I would suggest a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon. If not the tour at least drive to the Grand Canyon its only about a 4 hour ride there. Hope your enjoy your trip. Maybe you can keep us updated on your travels.

If you make it to Vegas and head east Dwight definitely lives in one of the coolest towns in the south west. Zion Canyon is shorter distance from Vegas and some stunning territory to view and walk/hike around. Angels landing is fun if you have the huevos.

Thanks guys, all sounding good. Probably go by bus to Vegas, stay a few days, then maybe hire a car and tour through grand canyon etc, then I would enjoy adding some colour to Dwight's neighourhood. Even if it is only washed out grey:

Now Bill! After all these years you've seen me make fun of that "superfluous U" around here, I'm SHOCKED that you've referred to the local area I reside in, or for THAT matter ANY localized area located within these United States as a "neighboUrhood"!!! (...here's to the hope we can work out the timing so's we can get together, dude..errr..MATE!)

Well, been having a great 3 weeks, saw all the sites around LA. Got to drive a corvette for a day, what a buzz, the load pedal is something else. Drove out though Phoenix to Sedona. Had an enjoyable afternoon with Dwight & Judy, no doubt many of you have experienced their hospitality. Thanks "dude". You're welcome, "mate"! Judie and I were very glad that you and Vicki were able to stop by the house. We had a wonderful time too. Cheers, and here's hoping you and Vicki continue having a great time exploring the American Southwest during your visit.
