Look Ma !!! No fins !!!
But, it does have 100 HP/72 Torque and only 538 lbs....I bet it F L I E S !!!!! (Sportster killer).
I like the look, its original.
The fenders have a bobber look.

Looks like a VIC, no surprise here. I would have preferred they stayed with the Chief Power plant design, but whatta I know. But it's a smart decision by Polaris. In the video I watched the suspension looks stiff and the blinkies were vibrating pretty good.

That big clunky radiator kills any looks it could have had. Tank and rear fender are kinda square and ugly too.

I am with you Michael , I would think that the response to the thunderstroke would have inspired them to stick with that same design ?? I think this is a mistake on their part and it could possibly bite them in the butt?? What do I know though lol

To me the engine has more the look of an updated(DOHC/water-cooled) and modernized JAP(the British-made J A Prestwich, and most famously used in the Brough Superior SS100) OHV V-Twin engine than of the old side-valve Indian Scout.
Anybody else see this here?
And, the reason the new Thunder Stroke engine is such a visual winner is because the boys at Polaris did such a masterful job of re-creating the old side-valve Indian look in an OHV engine.
Hmmmmm, gotta say while the claimed HP and Torque output figures are very impressive AND the overall look of this new Scout is FAIRLY well done, THIS ONE will probably have to "grow on me for awhile" before I'll really warm to it.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

They should have gone entry level with the Scout IMO, cash cow like the Sportster is to HD in the $6,000 to $8,000 range.

Ditto. I'm starting to come around to it, in the red color.
That being said, I didn't like the Chieftain AT ALL but once they made the Roadmaster, I warmed up to it. Go figure!

What seems odd to me is all the retro love for the chiefs. Then this modern style. It's a Victory with Indian logos.

There are those that believe this engine was meant for a Victory and was sidetracked to Indian.

The retro cues on this bike are quite extensive, and completely unlike a Victory(and the overdone Arlen Ness look).

It amazes me how many people still incorrectly think that Arlen Ness had anything to do with the design of the Victory machines. Genius Michael Song is largely responsible for the Victory machines.

Maybe this has something to do with that "misconception" Arlen Ness Victory Vision

When I first saw a still for the scout I like it a lot. And I figured they did a good job building something distinctive. After all, think of how hard it is to build a midsize bike and have it look like nothing else. EVERYTHING has already been done or designed already. I looked at this bike and I thought, "This could really grow on me". That's before the video (great video) and my good look at the RADIATOR! Gawd, I hate that HUGE radiator. It's HUGE! I know, that's how you're gonna pump out the horsepower with an engine this size. Sigh...It's just my age...I'm sure that GIANT, FRIGGIN, HUMONGOUS radiator won't bother the younger crowd. And that's ok. Bottom line. I think Indian did a very good job here and I think it might be a seller to entry level bikers and chicks. Not my cup of tea though. I still love my Chief with the retro styling and air cooling. Even if it is as heavy as a car.

Sure. All Ness is doing is putting a silly paint job and some chrome do-dads on the machnine. Ness has nothing to do with the motorcycle design.

Small funny story; over at the Indian site, it was mentioned that although the majority of Hardly riders will look with appreciation at the new Indians, and some will talk to you about them, a few develop "stiff necks" at a stoplight when you pull up next to them. I encountered such a dude at the Marina yesterday. Older dude. He was sitting on a nice looking maroon and black HD, watching the boats pull in and out.I pulled up next to him and tried to start a conversation. He talked a little, but he refused to even look my direction. I caught him looking real hard at my bike in my rear view mirror as I left, though. That kind of stuff always makes me laugh.

Yeah Rich, get used to that from some HD riders.
There are LOADS of people that like the Indians but that handful of HD weenies that will not acknowledge an Indian are hilarious.

It is difficult to believe Arlen Ness who has had a Signature Series bike with Victory since 2003 has no input with Michael Song. Honestly now, do you really think they don't communicate?

Yeah, just can't do the radiator either on cruisers....that's also my biggest, possible only, complaint with the Rockets and Thunderbirds.

If looks were the only makings of the MC it would be hit or miss with me how does it drive? Victories outclass HD any day of the week after demoing both many times for the fun of it.

I think the knock on the radiator is somewhat funny, especially considering so many cruiser bikes(especially bikes with fairings) have the lowers, and the lowers are much bulkier than the radiator.
That bike has such a terrific mix of old design cues added to a modern eye, it honors the past and looks forward at once. The water cooled aspect makes for a superior product, and from the riding reviews, its a blast to ride. Its fast, it handles, has a great finish, and it very comfortable, a complete winner it seems.
The Scout is on my list in the next year or two. When you consider the price, the performance, and the uniqueness, how isn't it a winner(its the displacement that we have wanted on the Triumph twins forever....so, Triumph missed an opportunity, and why don't I think it would have been this good).

To me a radiator is fine in one of those big rolling living room bikes that has all that fiberglass body work to begin with but that isn't the sort of bike this is supposed to be. I really see very little of the old in this bike, I do see a couple points but mostly not. To me the water cooling may be superior cooling but takes away from the look. I have never been one that wanted the larger displacement in my bike either. I have been riding 650cc Triumphs most of my life and was happy with them and I ride a 64 BMW that is 500cc. All I see in lager displacement is an insurance surcharge.

Scout is supposed to be innovative, its part of its legacy, and high performance and water cooling fits that.

Looking at the seating, handlebars and footpegs, would you say it is pretty much the same position as riding a Speedmaster?

hmm, part of me really likes the look of this bike, i agree the radiator is a bit large (what is it with all these builders adversion to painting them the same color as the bike?) which is what i would do to try and blend it in with the rest of the bike a bit. I think the rear fender is to square but not real ugly, i like the horse power and torque for a 500 lb bike, i did notice on the video's the bike seemed pretty stiff which makes sense with the rear shocks laid down the way they are (can't help anyways) bujt as dwight has said, i think i need to look at it more. Frankly, its nice to see someone else out on the road.
