Today is the 75th anniversary of the Szilárd's & Einstein's confidential letter to FDR that prompted him to start the project.

I wonder if Oppenheimer was haunted all his days as a result of being the director of the Project. His famous quote from the Bhagavad Gita "Now I am become Death, destroyer of worlds" would indicate so.

One of my buddies, father was an xray tech in the Navy. He was assigned there to xray components to the bombs.
He said the perception in the town was that the base was a safe haven for politicians kids, to keep them out of the war. They were ostracized by the locals, and had to bite their tongues about what they were working on.
No matter how Cynical I become, I can never keep up.
