Did a nice 400 mile cruise yesterday on the new bike. Beautiful temp and explored a little of south Ill. After lunch (the worst chicken nuggets I ever had, leather wrapped in a darkish brown burn) I got sleepy about 50 miles down the road, as often happens. I did what I often do on a nice summer day. I pulled into a small town graveyard to take a nap! Perfect place to take a half hour siesta. It's always quiet, there is always a number of shade trees to choose from, the lawn is always manicured. I wrap the leather jacket up for a pillow and lay down in a quiet spot, and it's ALWAYS quiet in a graveyard. If some nosybody comes over to question why I'm here, I say that I'm from way out of town and I'm visiting my long lost relative, "aunt Mabel, Uncle Tom, greatgrandpa Leither," or whatever. My family, (the ones currently alive) know I do this and just shake their head when if I relate the practice. Then again, my birthday is Halloween, so I'm perfectly comfortable taking a short nap with all the full time nappers!

i think as long as its respectuful nothing wrong with it, heck as kids by uncle was a caretaker at a grave yard, lived on site so as kids we used to play all of the time, only rule was we had to respectful and use common sayin such as "excuse me" sorry, thank you and so forth!

I spent the night in a cemetery in Marietta Ga. when we were paving 285 and as I was walking around I saw a Veitnamese grave with the usual offerings to the departed, or Bhudda, or whomever, but these two humongous apples looked great. I left them one. Mmmm.

Many yrs ago I traveled cross country by bike and found that cemeteries were a very good place to spend the night, like you said quiet and no one bothers you cuz ain't nobody coming in there at night and like you said the trees make good cover. I have to admit though it wasn't my idea and I was a little aprehesive at first but it turned out to be some of the safest and peacefull places I stayed.

I visit them often just to see who lived in the area and how far back never thought of kipping in one, good idea. Any preference or critique as per religion?

I never really thought about that. I might be peaceful but I could see myself getting kicked out by security unless it was completely out in the boonies. And I guess you couldn't start a campfire.  Anyway most of the guys I ride with from here ride like a bat out of hell and never stop long enough to take a nap.

First time I took a nap was at a rest stop on I-80 in Nebraska, after completing a bun burner.

Of course, Brent... you are the voice of experience on such matters but I'll add one more temperature to the equation, and that being HOT. Well, at least for those who choose to go the way of Sam McGee by ending up in a furnace before resting in the grave site.

When cruising around and looking for a place to take a break I also find that graveyards are a good place to take a break. They usually have some nice big trees to get out of the sun and chill. The only problem that I have encountered is when there is a funeral taking place. If you happen to enter and not realize it from a past experience I can say that you will get some nasty looks.
