Hello Lurker Dude, what's that in USD ? An '02 is only worth around 3K regardless of the condition.

Not sure what the exchange rate is but in US$ that would be way over priced. In the end though, it matters more what you want. That bike will run a very long time for you at $7000 as long as he isn't hiding anything. I have paid too much for things I wanted with no regrets in the past but I always try and get what I want at the lowest end cost to me as possible.

A quick Google and it appears that's $5302.00 us bucks. 4396 low miles, but I agree That's on the higher end.

I would try and stay under $4500 at most and shoot for $3500.

This might give you some bargaining power with the seller. http://www.bonnevilleamerica.com/forums/...ge=0#Post619158Personally, it wouldn't be a deal breaker, but it would be something to think about with an '02.

If the tires are original, they probably have age checks/cracks in the sidewalls, take a well lighted look. New tires will be needed if present and are thereby unsafe. One reason the price needs to come down?

Cracks in the tires or not, I wouldn't ride with them. If original they are 12 years old and were crap to begin with.
As for the CDI... most haven't failed from the early years. My bike is an 03 with no issues.

Thanks guys, yea I will see what he says tonight but I think he is going to be a little tuff to negotiate with, he already is telling me I really don't need to sell it, I think that was his way of saying don't bother low balling me. Hey you never know he has been trying to sell it since April, and that's probably why it's not selling because he will not drop his price.

My advice is if he really does not need to sell it you should not need to buy it. It is a $3500 cdn all the time. He is hugely overpriced.
Remember once you put the miles on the clock over a years time it will be a 14 year old Triumph. You can buy 05-06 models at his price.
I also don't see much special about bikes that are driven little to never. How many bearings and seals have dried up or out, how much corrosion to electrics while it sat? 583 kms per year or it sat doing nothing for several years.
What is the date on the tires? Those bias ply tires last about 3 years, are they 12 years old now? Cables and lub, speedometer cable are also a concern. It really is an old bike regardless of the clock numbers.
I try to aggravate one person a day. Today may be your day.

I bought my 02 America new. I still love it. I've 53k miles on it and it still runs well. Looks good too! But I wouldn't spend more than $3500 on one, even with low mileage.

I just sold my 02 with 53 K. No issues with the cdi, or anything else. But the fellas are right about the tires, they are gonna have to go at that age. And, the bike is a little high priced. But, in the end, buy what makes you happy and don't listen to anyone who will take any fun from from you. Ride on!

I believe that that price is way to high JMO. About 4 months ago I purchased an 06 America 3500 miles, floor boards, sissy bar with rack, roaster windshield, tach, Tor exhaust, AI removed and a fork bag for $3500 US. I did have to put on a new set of tires and clean the carbs but I think I got a steal. Keep searching I am sure there are better deals out there and good luck.

KBB high retail is $3,325; NADA Average retail is $2,510. Maybe offer him $3,000 US. He's not going to get 5 grand unless he sells it to someone that knows nothing about these bikes. Like someone said, for $5400 you should be able to get a 2005-2007 America or Speedmaster.

Fellows,
I just sold my 03 America for $5000 with 57,000 kms on it. I had put new rubber on the bike and as many of you know, it had everything. Flyscreen, roadster screen, chrome everything including rims and every side cover (even the plastic one over the starter relay), backrest, 2 luggage racks, Corbin and standard seats, Kuryakyn running lights etc etc. Even though the list price for the bike was somewhere between $3500 and $4200 in Canada (and he knew it), the fellow had no qualms about paying 5 grand. I threw in everything including the service manual, brake pads, filter and all old parts. The fellow loves it. I've driven with him a couple of times and complained to him about it being dirty....
If you really like the bike and it includes everything and is as good as you say, I wouldn't feel bad about overpaying.
You will be able to find a more recent Speedy or America for the same money though. Have you tried KIJIJI?

Talk to this guy in San Diego. I like this bike a lot. I bet you get it under 4K US. But if you live in Canada the taxes getting it in would be steep huh? 2006 America

Actually the taxes are not high.
In order to import a motorcycle you have to pay what is call a RIV fee of $195, then the sales tax. You would have to pay sales tax on a bike bought in Canada any way so the difference is only the $195 RIV fee, plus of course the to go get or ship the bike.

Thats not bad at all. Many years ago somebody was telling me it was not cost effective to buy a vehicle in the US then take it home.

Truth. I'm living this pain as a result of letting mine sit for too long. Those days are over, thankfully ... but I've been replacing gaskets and doing random maint like you wouldn't believe. I also had corrosion issues on my tire beads causing leaks.
It's a newer bike too ... 07 with just over 7k miles on it sat way more than it ran for a few years. I can only imagine an 02 with less miles would have similar issues.
