I have ordered some fork gaitors for my 2012 Speedy. Anyone have advice for the install? Do I need to pull the front tire and brake line to do it? Or can I pull the whole fork assy in one piece? I am a little apprehensive about this as the front end is something I have never messed with before....

You could pull them as an assembly but it would be far easier to remove the tire, brake line, and fender and do one at a time.

Remove the calipers from the forks and support them via the frame, remove the front wheel and tire, loosen the tree/fork stay bolts as well as the shroud bolts and slide them out. Did I forget anything?

Removing them off as an assembly is easy, putting them back on as an assembly is a royal pain in the arse.
If I was doing it Id remove them one at a time, removing the wheel and other parts, to make it easier...and in the long run faster.

Before you take the triple clamps loose measure (with caliper or depth mike) from the top of each fork cap to the top of the upper triple clamp and write down so you can put them back in exactly the same place. Could save a lot if hassle later on.

I installed my fork gaitors tonight. Removed the forks as an assembly. Putting the forks back on as an assembly wasn't too bad. Used my bike lift in a tactical manner. Took approx. 1 hour, with "adult beverage" breaks every so often. Worst part was when my bike lift decided to roll away and I had to grab the handlebars to keep the Speedy from falling on it's side. That scared the bejeesus out of me.

Here's how they look -

I have pics at each stage of the process if anyone is interested.

I am embarassed to be asking so many dumb q:'s of late, but how to pull the lower shrouds off?? I'd LIKE to do it reversibly so I can put them back on if I decide I do not like the gaiters, which is unlikely.

If you are referring to the chrome conical shrouds that fit on top of the fork springs then the removal is quite easy. They are held on by friction from some O-rings so all you need to do is twist and pull up at the same time. When you fit the gaiters, the same O-rings will hold the lower part of the gaiters in place.

I took mine off a long time ago, but I seem to remember stay bolts at least on the lower shrouds? The top ones are captured 'tween the upper and lower tree segments. A little weazelpizz (WD 40) helps them slide right off.

The OP was referring to a 2012 Speedy which is also what I have. There are no upper shrouds and the only thing that could possibly be called shrouds on the lower section are the chrome conical rings that are on top of the fork lowers where the springs are housed. This would be true for 2011 and greater Speedmasters only. The America is completely different.

The Triumph parts fiche refers to the chrome conical rings as fork seal covers.

To those of you that have installed gaiters. What do you use to hold the top of the gaiter in place at the yoke? Is there a clamp or zip tie?
I have my forks off now and see how the bottom would stay in place but not the top.

I use a single black industrial grade zip tie. There are differences in quality.

OK, I had already ordered some gaiters when I asked. They have since come in and they have clamps included

I just tackled the this project, I couldn't remove the front axle (maybe I needed to just pop it out with a hammer or something) but I didn't. So, I jacked her up and removed the wheel and forks as a whole. It was very easy, I had no problem at all with this, many thanks to all on this site who mapped the way...my hat is off to you.
