I just bought the tool, wasn't too expensive and since I work on other peoples bikes and don't plan on selling mine I consider it a good investment.

Ok something hasn't been bothering me. When I did the head swap I didn't use the service tool. The guy helping me has worked on a little bit of everything so we bypassed using the service tool. Is this an issue when you take everything out and reinstall?

It's only an issue if you didn't set the backlash on the cam gear when you put it back in.

I'm not sure if he did this, what would the results be if he didn't?

Have you guys watched the YouTube video I posted under then heading "opinions please" ? Would it be that noise? I just checked the gears and I'm pretty sure they are backlashed. How do I fix that?

I just went back and took a listen. Id get under the cam cover again and do some checking.
In your previous post you mention having the tappets in a bag. Did you mean shims or the actual cam retainers? Just want to make sure. If you meant shims then you need to get in there anyways so checking the cam tension is only an extra couple steps with very little hassle.

For cam chain tension... the holes should align. If they don't pull the cam and set the tension and reinstall. Ive always used a rod that I have that fits in there. It requires some finagling but goes in easy.
While your doing that check your shims and do the math. You need to pull the cams to check the shim thickness anyway.
When your done with all that check the timing chain tension and adjust the tensioner if needed.
