I switched to this stuff only because of your excellent analysis results. I understand that Shell "recently" changed the formulation...any idea what they did?

Shell Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic diesel oil (5 liter jug at Walmart for $37 Canadian) is an excellent alternative to the high priced Amsoil and Mobil motorcycle oils that have served us so well. Since our bikes require oils with JASO MA and API SH ratings, the Rotella T6 meets these and is synthetic. I've checked on many forums and all who have used it have gotten long life and no issues. One thing to note with Mobil 1 VTwin 20W50 and the 4T 10W40 motorcycle oils is that they no longer have the JASO rating advertized on the official website SEE CHART HERE. I just purchased the Mobil 1 4T 10W40 and the bottles still showed the JASO rating so buyer beware.

If you really want to know what's going on in your motor as far as wear metals and oil breakdown is concerned, take a sample of oil at each oil change, and send it in to Blackstone Labs. Look them up. They will send you the sample kits for free - kit includes a small plastic bottle w/lid to collect the sample in, a small swath of absorbant cloth to wrap it in, a small zip-lok bag to seal it in, and a larger plastic container w/lid to ship it in. It's pre-addressed. On their website they have specific "oil slips" for marine, motorcycle, aircraft, diesel engines, etc., easy to complete online, print and send in with the sample. It used to cost $20/sample, now it's $25.00. If you are concerned at all about what oil to use, or deviating from recommended viscosities, you will find peace of mind by sampling your motor oil. The report they provide has commentary, and they know what they're looking at, as they see hundreds of samples from all kinds of motors and engines, using all types of lubricants. You can spend a little less money on great motor oil, and have the peace-of-mind that comes with an oil report telling you exactly what's going on in your engine. It's all about trends, so sample every oil change so you can see the trends. Heck, they even let you know when your air filter needs cleaning! Send a request for free sample kits and they will send you a box with at least 6 kits in it. It's very easy to do, and you will want to keep doing it once you start. It's a great service, and a great resource. www.blackstone-labs.com
