Grandfather of a co-worker has had his bike for sale, less than 10K miles, great shape and lots of bolt on stuff. Guy came by, showed him the money but wanted to test drive first.... ........ rode it up the street (not looking very confident ) and like a magnet was drawn to a concrete culvert......climbed out of the culvert, walked back to the grandpa and said " I take the bike but I need to go to the hospital first" jumped in his car, took off and not seen or heard from since..... ...lesson to this little tale, NO test rides unless you own it..

Wow, that truly sucks. Some people are just piss poor character.

interesting legal twist. the guy could sue for injuries on the bike's insurer and the same insurer is liable for damages.

Reminds me of this recent Allstate Insurance commercial...

I would have called the Police immediately and reported the accident, and also reported that the driver left the scene of the accident.

AND not only that little factoid you mention, the grand-pa's bike insurer said they wont cover as this person was not authorized on the policy.. the wreck would have only been covered if it had been an attempted theft.... and yes, as I heard the story , made me think of captain chaos on that bike in that commercial !

This is exactly why I will trade the Tiger in to the dealer for a more "standard" bike (possibly CB 1100). Have sold many in the past and watched many kids test ride my bike down the road. Been lucky so far but I figure my luck is about used up.

Mary asked if I was going to sell the Tiger or keep it. I said I will trade it in to the dealer. I have seen to many 20-50 year olds see what it will do in 2nd gear.

Thanks for reinforcing my thoughts.

Hope all works out well.

Sad story about grandpa's bike. As for test rides, bad idea. When I was selling my Gold Wing, I contacted GEICO, out of curiosity, to see if they would cover other riders (licensed). They said no - which I was okay with, BUT.... a few days later, I received a cancellation notice of my policy. The letter stated that it appeared that I was selling the bike and since unauthorized persons "might" ride the bike, they were cancelling the policy immediately. Sheesh, remind me not to ask any more questions.
