Are long TORs really louder than the shorts?

After owning and riding my bike (07 TBA) for over a year I am seriously considering long TORs. I have been running stock pipes and although I like the fact that I can ride all day without my ears ringing the rest of the day they're just too tame. However, I took my buddys 06 Speedie for a ride and it was a totally different riding experience. He has D&Ds which to me were a bit loud but, made me realize I need something else. I've poured through the site, forums and you tube and think the TORs will be my choice. I prefer the look of the long TORs but have heard the shorts are quieter. Any thoughts?

That's not been my experience. Consider as well the shorts outlet will be directly below you whereas the longs outlet will be more to the rear of you.
If you're just looking for more sound, punch out the stocker a baffle at a time till you get the sound you want.
Or look up Chevy605 pipes, link

Hey Mike

Have heard good things from Chevy605 pipes on Ebay. Went to ebay via your link and can't find anything about the exhausts. Am I looking in the right place?

I guess the only reason I haven't gone the debaffle route is if I didn't care for the results I'm kinda screwed.

If your looking for a nice but tolerable sound, Stayntunes are a good choice. But I would advise finding a decent set of used ones as they are $1200+ new and expensive shipping from downunder.

I think the TORS are a nice sounding pipe and if you have owned your ride for a year and not done much to it yet then you are generally happy with the bike over all, the TORS have a nice sound under throttle and still farily quite otherwise.

I've got the long TORs on my 02. If you like just a reasonable amount of exhaust noise, they are good. Through the years, I've rode with a lot of the fella's on here and some of them have the much louder exhaust. I have often thought about getting some louder exhaust cause I like it when I hear it, but I have kept my TORs for the simple reason I don't want to be hassled by out of state cops, and I spend a lot of time riding outside my home state.

Another option would be to gut your stock pipes and replace them with after market baffles. A quick cruise through the JP Cycles website and I'm sure that you could find something to suit your needs.

Had the long TOR's on my 2009 America. One time while I was at the dealer waiting for my bike to be serviced, I heard this cool sounding bike...I looked around, it was my bike! The service tech was taking it out for a test ride...sounded fantastic! I think that will be my choice of pipes for my Speedie.

imho shorter pipes are louder due to what was said, they are under your butt instead of the long ones which dump the sound out past your rear tire.

I've the long TORS, Sceptres, and D&Ds. The D&Ds are barking mad. The Sceptres are a sedate bark. The TORS are whisper jets. All three sound great but if riding behind the D&Ds, you'll wish you had ear plugs. The Sceptres if running with another bike with them, a serious case of acoustic resonance occurs. You'll swear something is wrong with the ride. lol

I had long TORs on my bike for two years, then Specialty Spares for five years, and now have short TORs for the last couple years. Granted there is a long lag time for comparison between the two, but I don't think my short TORs are any louder than the long ones were. Actually, I think the long ones may have been a little crisper sounding; I wonder if a lot of it depends on what version of TORs you get. At any rate, both TORs are much quieter than the SS were. With the TORs, I use earplugs on longer rides because of wind noise. With SS pipes, I used ear plugs even on short rides because of the engine noise.

I have experience with both short & long TORS, & of those two, I prefer the sound of the longs.

Thanks for all the input guys. Think I'm going to start with debaffling (1 then start drilling) my long stock pipes. Hopefully I can get the sound I'm looking for without the investment of new slip ons. But if I should come accross a pair at the right price I'll get a set of the long TORS.
