4 Days No Smokes. The clerk at the Wawa pi$$ed me off, the guy 2 cars ahead of me pi$$ed me off, as a matter of fact everyone I have come in contact with has pi$$ed me off. I went out to my shop to keep from taking my being pi$$ed off out on my family, and figured out I am just pi$$ed at myself just because. Now with all that money I'm going to have in my pockets not being a slave to the smokes, I'm thinking the speedy needs to transform from a flat black to shiney new bright red. If my back doc lets me go, I hope to be sporting new colors in Georgia. I feel better now that I have vented. I should be calm for a good 4 and a half minutes until I'm pi$$ed again.

I feel your pain, sort of. My BP has been up slightly, the doc says cut back the caffeine. I'm down to one cup in the morning, making me a surly SOB by 3 PM daily, oh yeah a no beer at night. Makes me want to take up smoking (just kidding!). I'm in the restaurant business, there's always a pot tempting me.
Actually, good luck and good job - that's a nice thing to do for your family and your health.

I quit the cancer sticks 3 weeks ago.. been getting along ok with nicotine patches.. but watch out if I don't have one on! I didn't really have a choice, I was starting to have problems breathing and they sent me to chest xrays... no cancer, but it seems I have "chronic obstructive pulmonary disease" (or as the mechanic at my dealer's put it, my lungs're full of snot) so now I have to use ventolin periodically.
Anyway, good luck with the quitting and keep it up, it's worth it.

Hey Lark, Today is day 16 for me, I too was having pain in the left side of my chest that was aggravated by the Marlboro lights. I had quit about 8 times since early last year, using patches, etc, but have decided I either quit, or die... Done for good now, hang in there....

Been 4 years this month. Thats how I convinced the OL to let me get the bike. The payments were the same as a months worht of smokes. I have tried to quit many times and found that using the patch for the complete program and not cutting it short works.

Been 2 months for me. I used to be pack & a half a day, then I quit cold turkey. For me, day 3 was ABSOLUTE HELL! I did slip on St. Patrick's Day, but that was it...none since.
One thing I've found to help is to smoke a cigar once a week or so (no inhaling). You still get a hell of a nicotine fix, and you find yourself craving cigarettes much much less.

I quit in 1978 cold turkey from a two pack a day habit. My first wife had a gangleon cyst on the upper lobe of her right lung and they had to remove the lobe. I saw what it was like for her to rehabilitate from lung surgery and it "sort" of influenced me. Then, one day I came home and saw a cigarette that had been half burned down in an ashtray. It was our brand, and she had been sneaking back into the habit. After freaking LUNG surgery! I decided the only way for her to quit was if I did too, so I quit right then and there. She later graduated as an RN, ran off with a doctor, and started smoking again. What a moron! A couple times, I've tried to add up all the money I've saved by not smoking since I quit. BIG bucks over time. Now I have more for my heroin habit.

Oh, I forgot to mention how bad people who smoke smell to those who don't. Whe you start noticing that, then you'll just about be home free.

Heah man, save your money from the smokes and send it to Brent!! Proud of you guys!! I never smoked, and that's because I have some family members who did and I see what they go thru (and yes they stink...). My GF's father quit smoking his pipe when his wife had tripple bypass and an anneurysm. He's totally hooked on tootsie-pops now

My wife quit again about 2 months ago, and she asked me while we were out for dinner if I was proud of her. I stood up and turned to the entire resteraunt and said.."May I have your attention! My wife hasn't smoked for two months, and I am proud of her. What do you think?" The whole place started clapping and shouting! Keep it up, it is worth it.
Tom.
But, what do I know?

I went cold turkey 45 years ago. I found the problem staying away from the smokes was when I went out to a bar. I fixed that by ordering two beers, one for each hand. Dave

Like anything else, first it gets worse, then it gets better. Hang in there. Not smoking won't kill you, so it must make you stronger. At least in CA, 1 pack costs about 1.5 galons of gas. So, when you think of giving up and buying a pack, consider that it is going to cost you some 60 - 80 miles of riding.

It's been 4? 5? maybe 6 years for me now. By far one of the best decisions I've ever made. Don't worry you'll quit wanting one in just a couple....of years... but hang in there man. I used the chewing gum, worked out really well for me, gave me something to do and helped me avoid that old "bucket head" feeling.

Nicotine. What a mistress huh? I gave up smoking over a decade ago. I quit the copenhagen the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Mean was not a word that defined me. I defined it! Now I find myself 4 days short of four months removed from my mistress’s chambers during which I have remained tobacco free. It only gets better. Yet I didn't smoke. For you, expect your taste buds to have an epiphany in about another month or so.

Please do not discriminate against me because of my religion.
Our daily prayers require us to take in tabacco fume.
My praying requires like 2 packs worth a day.
Now let me on the airplane.

Thanks all, even though I am irritated all the time, I have a good friend carrying an oxygen tank everywhere he goes. Sad but useful. The thought of lugging one of those tanks around scares me far more than not having my imaginary crutch. On the plus side now that he knows I have quit, if I slipped up, I think he would beat me with his tank. I know there are going to be tough days ahead, but none tougher than what I've just been through. Well I haven't had that first cold beverage yet, that ought to be a fun test. Again thanks for all the support, it does help.

Hey Lark, You sound pretty docile to me - I walked into a diner and a waitress ticked me off with her attitude. I chewed the legs off one of those "Chrome & Naughahyde" chairs, and walked out. Felt better for a while.

If it wasn't for eating, drinking and sex, stopping smoking would be easy. I quit about ten years ago using the nicotine gum as a crutch. The pamplet included with the gum helped as well. One point that made sense was that you need to change your personal rituals that you associate with a smoke. They suggested that if you liked a smoke after meals, as soon as you finish, get up and get busy with something, don't sit there and let your cravings take control. Same applies for sex. Drinking alcohol always required smoking, but I quit that a few years before I tackled cigarettes. Fight your battles one at a time. Hang in there and keep at it.
