I was getting fed up with the corrosion & worming on the wheels & fork bottoms so decided to give the America a pre-summer spruce up....

I like the wheels are they powder coated?
There used to be something called "black chrome" around.I don't know if it's still available.

Cheers fellas.
I was going to get the wheels powder coated, got new bearings ready but couldn't be arsed to get the tyres taken off as they have just enough tread in them for this year, so went for the cheaper option of just spraying them for now & the forks too.
Will get it all powder coated over winter & new tyres too whilst the bike is laid up.

The chrome trim around the fenders & fuel tank is just self adhesive 3mm plastic trim. Got it from ebay ages ago, think it was about £8 for 10 metres when i got it.

Next job is to get black engine cases & sprocket cover from a Speedmaster. I've been offered a straight swap for a set of covers from a 2010 efi Speedmaster & i am led to believe they fit fit ok.
Will probably also black out the cheese graters & chrome battery cover.

Hello Duncan.How well does spraying the wheels hold up?I'd like to do mine but it's a big job to get them off just for powder coating.

Holds up ok mate. It was never meant to be a forever job, just a temporary black out on the wheels & forks until i'm ready for the hassle of getting them powder coated.
I gave them a good scrub with a 3M scotch pad. I left the tyres on & masked up the tyres, valve & bearings etc then gave them a quick spray with self-etching primer, followed by grey primer, then a few coats of gloss black, followed by a few coats of clear lacquer.
It may well chip off in places over the summer months but it's easily touched in again with a paint pen/brush. It just gives me the desired effect until the winter.

The black sprocket cover & stator cover from the 2010 efi Speedmaster were a perfect fit for my 07 America & i replaced the footboards with the genuine Triumph riders footpegs, sprayed the battery strap & cheese graters black & finally fitted the A.I removal kit...  However, the clutch casing was different. The efi has a larger diameter gear selector shaft & therefore didn't fit. I ended up getting my chrome casing chemically stripped of the chrome & copper plating. I then primed it & sprayed it with VHT Wrinkle Plus paint...  The long TORS were replaced with cocktail shakers & the headers have been wrapped...  The idiot light console has now been sprayed too...  I'm still undecided about the exhaust. Do i leave them chrome or scuff them up & spray them with VHT black paint?...
