Was tired of waiting for the snow to clear the past few weeks so I decided to make my own air intake to eliminate the stock snorkel. Crude but ABS is easy to work with and it was already in the house. I put it on today after the Spring oil and filter change and went out for a tour. Got the big BWAAAAA sound but there was a definite hesitation in the acceleration. Could be the 5 month old gas with stabilizer in it or maybe just not enough gas and needs a bigger jet.

You will need bigger jets. Been there done that. People smarter than me will chime in with suggestions.

My guess is being slightly leaner (your mod won't make a big difference in extra air) wouldn't cause the hesitation. I would blame the fuel or gunged jets.

I have been toying with that idea myself. My snorkel came out some time ago. Thanks for the inspiration to get busy now

Cutting sheet ABS with a jig saw heats up the plastic too much and it just sticks itself together behind the blade. Either hand saw it with a coping saw or do a slow jig.

If you really want to add some air and keep the box, open the bottom of the filter aligned to the box. I run 140s with a drilled box. The methodology has been covered many times on here, use the search function: drilled airbox..

I haven't had a chance to run through a full tank of the stabilized gas as the snow and ice came back for one more time. Its Good Friday, well in our case not a bad Friday but promises of better things to come. After its used up if the hesitation remains I'll try the shim(s).

Found the easy instructions for doing the shimmy thing on Pat's(Dinqua) web site.

I had the same issue(flat spot in acceleration). 1 shim fixed that.

I have the Polaris bellmouth on mine. The only advantage to the bellmouth is it stops the surging in high crosswinds. Other than that no difference in performance,IMHO

Local dealer wants $2.50 per shim what highway robbery! I was going to buy 4 just in case, $10 plus tax at 13% I think not just on principal. Fast Eddy sells 4 for 2.50 plus shipping and I am sure I can find something else I need from his catalogue not available here.

The shim worked thanks for the suggestion and thanks again to Pat for posting the easy to do instuctions on his website. ( this site does not allow for opposing thumb salute.)

As a test I put the snorkel back in to see if I had the same reaction to throttle response and did not so concluded it was not gunge in the carb.
