Did anyone ever get a cheaper alternative for the Speedmaster speedo cable bracket for the front fender? The BC one is $50 and the stocker keeps breaking. I have searched and remember someone making on home made alternative, just cant find it.

Wasn't it a whittled down and polished short section of a Aluminum angle with a hole drilled in a shortened/shaped leg for the stay bolt? I seem to remember the cable had to be threaded through the bracket, then mounted to the fender, which is actually no big deal. I also recall it looked as good as anything currently on the market. Al-you-minny-um (Brit pronunciation) is easy to cut, drill and file to shape, go for it.

Use that with a stainless eye bolt.

This is the one you're thinking of Ian.I made this from a stainless steel shackle, acorn nut,one bolt two flat washers and a connector for threaded rod.Cost about $6.00.
I'm going to make up another one and post pics as I go in case anyone would like to copy it. Charlie.

That's the one I remember, very cool. When I need to replace mine think I'll go that route.

Mine broke a decade ago, never replaced it. I just sliced off the broken loop and left the base in the fender hole. Not sure they really serve a purpose.

From what I have seen the cable tends to hit the exhaust header if you don't have the loop.

Home depot. Plumbing hanger 1.29. You know the little stainless and black clamp you screw to to the stud and the PEX runs through the loop part. Bolt into place through the existing hole. Last forever. They look like this. This is a heavy PEX hanger. But this is the shape you want. Then a small bolt, two washers and a nut. You are done.

You just bend over the only ear to make a loop. This will naturally make the 90 angle. Bolt through both eyelets back with a washer both sides. Mount it at about 30 degrees toward the header. The cable will slide through the loop forever. You are insulated from fraying and IT WILL NOT BREAK.
