I can now say that I have finally seen these guys live. Finally. It might be the last time, so had to do it.
It was great to have Bernie Leadon back with the guys. I was very disappointed that he didn't wield the banjo on "Take It Easy". He did, however, play it for "Doolin' Dalton/Desperado Reprise". He played for the entire 1st set and must have had something to do with the new arrangement on "Witchy Woman". He was in great form considering. He sort of looked like Charlie Parker from a distance.
Henley can still sing, and he hit every note during the 3.5 hours they played. He also took turns as a soloist, percussionist, drummer, rhythm guitarist and mc.
Frey had a cold, admitted as such, and strained with some of the tougher lead vocals. He was great in harmony with the band, and had a more expanded role on rhythm guitar than I remember. Again, first time live, so this could be normal. He made a nice tribute to Randy Meisner on "Take it To the Limit". He also payed homage to my boys, The Beach Boys, by saying, "the Beach Boys were trailblazers. The Eagles were settlers". Big kudos from me on that, and for recognizing Bob Seger as his mentor.
Walsh was amazing from start to finish. I love that guy. Who knew that being sober could make you healthier?
So the show went for 3.5 hours. They went all the way back to before the first album, through the entire Leadon era, and concluded with an encore that included the classic "Rocky Mountain Way".
I used to think that Clapton had the most professional, tight show ever until I saw the Eagles. With Leadon joining Walsh, Frey, and Steuart Smith on the stage, the show was guitar-focused, right where it should be. The guys seemed to get along, and each appreciated the talents of the others. The harmonies were perfection.
I would go again.

Sweet! glad you got to see them. Talented folks everyone, Joe Walsh got my attention with "Stop" many years ago and I've been a fan since. Saw him live once on a solo tour but that too was a lot of years ago. You know I've always dug the Eagles.. funny though for some odd reason, I've always hated Seven Bridges Road The Long Run but I really like most of their stuff. Coolistic... thanks for sharing!

Yeah man, I know you are a fan. I'll say more. The show starts with Frey and Henley sitting on amps reminiscing about the beginning. They are soon joined by Leadon as a trio for "Train Leaves Here This Morning" then by Timothy for "Peaceful Easy Feeling" with Henley keeping the beat on his acoustic. Walsh walks out on stage in the middle of the newly arranged "Witchy Woman" without saying anything, and he really didn't say anything for the first set. The first set was mostly the greatest hits up until Leadon departed. I was really impressed with him, and how well he fit with Walsh. No tension, just admiration. They both get along with well with Steuart, and from their stage language, admire his talent. Hell, he has been with them for 13 years now. Still would be nice to see them make-up with Felder. Not sure if Meisner is going to live, so that may never happen. I had a feeling that he would have been asked to participate in this tour if he hadn't gotten sick. Damn. Walsh and Steuart rocked the second set, with all of their guitar-heavy songs. Joe might have done a 5 minute solo on "The Long Run," and if you like his voice, he sounded great throughout the night. I do.
They stayed away from "Seven Bridges". Thank goodness.
I could probably go on forever.

What a great band. I think that I wore out a couple of "Desperado" albums back in the day.
Saw them in '76 or'77 here in Vegas. Great show, I'd love to catch them again.

Yup, saw them at this point I would have to say in my yute maybe '76 in a big field just outside of Ottawa. Great Show Hotel California does exist its in Todos Santos near the tip of the Baja even though they, owners of the hotel and the Eagles both claim no contest. A month ago when there it would be difficult to convince the tourists of that.

Totally envious, Ryan. What an amazing experience. And it was wonderful to read your post(s) considering your knowledge of the band and band members. Wow... just wow!!
Live to love, love to live.

Good post Ryan.
I remember listening to "take it easy" on a Ferry from Stockholm to Helsinki on a cold autumn day in the seventies
"Life's been good to me so far"
That may have been Joe Walsh during the breakup years?
