I was thinking of powder coating my alloy wheels from my 07 America. Thinking of high gloss black...has any one done this with some pics I could see? How's the hold-up of the powder coating? Thanks

Im getting my 07 America wheels powder coated over winter & just had a quick play on paint to see what they would look like.
Admittedly i have the computer skills of a child but you get the rough idea.....

Clean them, look that there's no grease on it and paint them with PlastiDip by your own. Cheaper and removable - with the same look.

Done that on my car - works out fine. But take you time when spraying and use a blow-dryer to go faster.

Now, I knew (a little) about PlastiDip, but after watching some Youtube videos, I think I can come up with things to do!

I mean, it opens up a lot of imagination when coming up with patterns and designs, and if in the end, I realise I went too far, then I just need to peel it off to start again.

I'm about to order a bunch of cans and have a go towards the whole bike! Tank, fenders, wheels ... even pipes, not the headers, but the slipons, as I saw it can withstand 350F which should be fine for my TORs.

just wanted you to know that powder coating is cured in a oven @ 400F. you will end up replacing the oil seals and maybe even the wheel bearings if they have rubber seals. The company coating them may even want you to remove the bearings and all traces of grease so it doesn't contaminate other parts when it gives off fumes.

all seals will need to be removed no question, they will not take the chance. Jeff, tremclad has come out with one just like the plastidip, i have used it and its pretty decent stuff, and like you said the 3 times! LOL i messed up i just peeled away and did it again. I know some guys have done their tips (muffler) with it butnot seen the pipes done, would be good to know how the stuff holds up.

As for the thread, powdercoating is very nice though, stands up well and not to expensive.

Do not use PlastiDip on your exhaust. It is a rubbercoating and stinks like hell on your exhaust when heated up and can even burn.

For this reason you better use exhaustpaint (eb VHT) or BBQ-Paint.

Chromed pipes and headers should be clean and and a little rough on the surface. Do one coat after the other and if you got an electric heat gun use it between coats! The exhaust, especially headers needs to be heated up before laying on the next coat. So the Color lasts longer.

Plastidip your whole bike.. easy - peasy.
Rims are gloss black epoxy, not plasti-dip though.
