So, weather was nice for the first time in about two weeks so I rode to work today. And the first thing I noticed is that the heat shield on the right side (stock, 2008 America) is missing. Can't remember anything eventful from the last ride, but it is just not there.
So, I am not seeing anywhere I can order it separately, any ideas besides ebay for a whole right side muffler ?

Replacement "universal" heat shields can be found at a couple of the on-line motorcycle stores. The type with a shield on a couple of hose clamps. Of course that would not match the stock shield. *Had one break a weld and rattle on my TORs but was able to get it repaired before falling off like several have had. Sounds like a great time/excuse to start looking for some good high flow after market exhaust

Post something in "classifieds", several folks have a set of headers lying around. I may still have a set at my other shop, will look next week. That shield is welded on, so looks like you're gonna hafta get you another header. You don't need a "whole right side muffler", just the header and 'probly the gasket.

Th header doesn't have the shield. The muffler does. The headers are double walled.

OK, I assumed he was talking about the lower heat shield on the header. Those are double walled to a point, then they just have a one sided shield where it connects to the muffler.
Bummer-I just tossed a pair of stock mufflers recently.

I had to weld the heat shields on Wendys bike several times, never had a problem with mine.

I tore one off in Georgia a while back. Haven't missed it. Hardly anybody notices it's missing...
Yes, they are welded on, and trying to weld on chrome? Not my area...

Thanks everybody, expecially for confirming their welded on.
I'd rather they match, so I'd prefer not to go the after market route.
When my CDI went a couple of years ago I had a lot of backfiring and there is a lot of discolorization (damn, almost spelled that with a u!) so it is very noticable with it off. On the otherhand there is a blue/gold spot behind where the heat shield was from then also that has bugged me for thelast two years, so...
Not really interested in after market exhaust - the noise from these is almost too much for my autistic son's sensory issues to be around, and honestly I really don't need any more power than I've already got.
What is temping is when looking on ebay I saw a full header & muffler set at a very reasonable price - now if I could get that ceramic coated in a off white to match the New England White on the tank....well, the daughter should finish vet school in another 4 years or so, maybe then....
Anyway, thanks everybody.

Don't have to weld on chrome, they are welded in the first place and painted with some silver paint. Just clean in up with a small grinding wheel or some other abrasive and weld. Had to set my mig pretty low so I wouldn't burn the tab away.

Hey Mark, I do have an old set of gutted, shortened, holes drilled in several places and otherwise scrap TORs I recently tossed on the scrap pile. Seems the heat shield was the same as on the long tapered OEM mufflers. I could try to cut a right side shield off for you if you like. That is if you have a decent welder near by to tack it back into place for you.

You can do what I did....grinded off all heat shields on mufflers and headers, then wrapped all of them with header wrap. Looks and functions great!
