Took my bike to a shop today to have the damage estimated. Insurance company says the bike is worth 4700 stock, and I have been carrying additional insurance on all the aftermarket stuff and paint job. I don't think there's any chance of it being totaled out at this point.
It was nice to get back on it and ride a bit today, although I'm still quite sore right now.

It kinda sounds like you may come out okay with the insurance payments, Dave. When they totaled out my 02 TBA, State Farm said it was only worth around 3K. This was in '09. The shop wanted 4K to fix it.

I could also try talking to a tree in the forest and would end up getting the same result

In 2006 Got rear ended on 02 TBA. Other persons Ins. Adjuster did estimate for over almost 3700. Bike was valued at about 3600. I got him to take saddlebags offand got bike fixed. When bicycle ran out in front of me in May 2013, worked with my insurance to keep bike.
Parts aren't cheap, value of bike gets less and less.Next time something happens, may not be so lucky.

It sounds like you're and your beloved still have plenty of years to spend together. I can hardly wait to see what you come up with for paint.

Well, they are telling me it's a total loss. I'm keeping the bike, and getting almost 3 grand from them, so I should be able to pretty much replace everything if I shop wisely. I don't understand their logic behind totaling a vehicle with basically only cosmetic damage, but whatever. I'll get it fixed up again, get it certified by the highway patrol, and be on my way.

A dent in the tank, scratched pipes, bent floorboards, a fender or two and your right up there with cost.

Had a feeling that would happen. It doesn't take much to total out one of these bikes when you consider their value range. Still sounds like you'll come out ok.
One good thing, there's tons of parts available for them.
