Cool story here, German. Thanks for posting it.
That's a nice lookin' old Triumph, isn't it!
And even though it's taken all these many years for this guy to get his bike back, I suppose the silver lining here might be that when he bought it he paid 300 bucks for it, but NOW it's worth 9 Grand.
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Has the value slipped on those, they were going $12,000 more or less.

This particular bike might be worth more and in fact could be worth $12K or more, but from what I'm noticed recently, some of the vintage market has slipped just a little in recent years from its high in 2006 for the more mass-produced and popular British brands and models such as Triumphs and BSAs.
The bigger money now(as always) especially seems to be in the more rare British marques such as in Vincents, Brough Superiors and the like, and of which the recent economic downturn doesn't seem to have affected the pricing in that market.
(...in other words, the High Rollers out there are still continuing to pay ever bigger money for the rarer motorcycles to add to their collection)

I think that is true with the later bikes but the pre-unit stuff last I really looked into it was still around $12,000 more or less depending what exactly you have.

Yeah, Pre-unit Triumphs and Beezers do seem to be especially strong right now, so you're probably right.
