These words, I believe, are true. Share and comment if you don't want "standardised" and "chloroformed" music!

Right on, Jeff. There are times when some local kid or body steps up to the mic and just blows me away. Not because they have the best voice or can play their instrument the best, but because of their ENERGY. I agree, those show destroy more talent than they promote. Of course, I pretty much can't stand mainstream TV anyway.

Yes, Keith. There is salvation in trying something new, and going your own way... ain't it why we ride Triumph bikes?
Guys, not my words (couldn't edit as it's not text but a picture), but I think you can get passed the vocabulary and see the big picture here... the words are crude, but the aim is right. Don't get caught up in meaningless rhetorics...

Not sure i agree entirely and i LOVE Nirvana. But i wish i had access to anything else to help move a music carreer around, we did not have U-tube then, our studio consisted of very large 32 channel or larger boards, reel to reel equipment that you needed a truck to move around and all of that you can now do pretty much of your laptop for goodness sakes. Those bands "nirvana" will still be found but any avenue hat could help in what is a very competitive and producer driven industry can't hurt. I actually like the show "the voice" a little clicky but some serious talent who just need another way of getting their face on the tube....what the heck.....if its really your thing you won't quit anyways, and frankly some of them should.

I like "The Voice" too. They only have talented singers and no one gets put down or told that they suck, in fact the coaches are always positive and encouraging to those who don't get selected.

I was not offended, just pointing out the problem so you could fix it and avoid the hammer, as I see you did.

And here, at first, I thought it was all about Nirvana gettin' bashed! (kinda, anyway. Though I, like most other "Alternative Rockers" from "The DAY", consider the movement to be all about "just doin' it", without the expertise!)
And you may see me tonight

Weird local fact that I didn't know about until last year. All of the local high schools don't hire live bands for their dances anymore, and for a while now. The kids want their music more "perfect", so they hire a DJ to spin electonic tracks. This simple enough pronouncement from one of the local kids just blew me away. Garage bands that played schools were the breeding ground for talented musicians in the past. I find this to be a very strange turn of cultural events.

Sad to read about this.
One of our high point of the year when I was at school was to listen to our buddies who have been practicing all year long for performing at the "end of the school year's show". There were classical acts as well and rock'n'roll ones.
Of all of them , I think only one became relatively famous as he was asked to be the drummer for The Box, local canadian band. I'm not sure how it turned out as we graduated and moved on...

Grohl is a brilliant musician and I love Nirvana and although I have a lot of sympathy for what he's saying he sort of misses a major point (apart from the fact his autobiography paints a slightly different picture of Nirvana ) They might have been a bunch of guys ****** around in a garage but they had something else. Something that made them stand out. I think it's called talent. Most people can buy an instrument and suck and play with other blokes and suck and do it for years and .... suck. I don't have a lot of time for X Factor and the like but just now and again they find a piece of real talent. Not often mind you, too many identikit performers for my liking, but there are some who probably wouldn't have been discovered otherwise. Oh, and I'm like edmspeedmaster and wasn't discovered either (then again I never had a garage ) And my apologies for being rude, I'm ****** and a new America owner in Brighton UK. Hello to all Ha! Strange censoring you have here... perhaps you should call me Richard.

Thanks, I hadn't seen it. I won't be able to make it unfortunately as I'll be France and Switzerland on the bike but I hope the meet goes well
p.s. torrential rain forecast for us on the South coast (sometimes it's a real joy living here - still, the dog likes it )
