Awesome post, Stephen! Love the pics, the idea, the teamwork... the whole thing. What a cool way to spend time with each other!! It got me to thinking about my granddaughter in that I often wonder when she'll be old enough to take riding. She's close to being 5 now and I know it will be a while yet. And so I ask... how old was your first born before you took him riding? Again, great post here.

Man, before I got to the picture of your son and first read your "and Harrison is in the bag", my first thought was that those Kiwis sure let their kids start drinkin' mighty young over there! Looks like you guys had one terrific and very memorable trip there, Stephen!
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Jacob is 9 and a half and first went on my Trike at 8 and a bit then when I went back to 2 wheels onto that at about 9. Harrison has only been on the back of my wife's bike since last month at 8 but she has a top box on it with a back rest so he sits in there nice and snug. Riding home today I was behind for a while and he was sitting there like a seasoned pro, hands resting on his knee's and looking around at the scenery. They just can't wait to do it all again. This was a bit of a test to see how they went. Quite on the cards we'll head a bit further afield next time and for longer too.

Thanks for that Stephen. Yeah, I was figuring on somewhere between 8-10 years of age before taking here out. I'll use your story as a case for convincing my son to let ol' gramps here take his daughter out for a ride. Meanwhile glad to hear your family's enjoying the experience!

Awesome. You guys look great together. My son has been riding with me since he was about 9..... trips with the whole familiy are perfect. Do you guys use anything to communicate while riding? We use scala's on each of our helmets so that all three of us can talk about the trip or to make decisions on the way.

My daughter was 10 when she started riding with me. She loves it and is so at home on a bike I have to look back to even know she is there.

My wife told my daughter she couldn't ride until her feet could sit on the passenger pegs (I agree, so does the law). The other day Stella had me get on the bike to see if her legs were long enough yet. She was a little dissapointed. She is looking forward to riding. Until then we have to run around on the quad at the grandparents ranch.
