A friend told me about Google Earth, so I downloaded it. I just started to use it. The views are amazing. You get satellite images of the entire earth, and you can zoom right in on any location. It was easy to find my own house. I suspect some images are more clear than others, depending on the age of the image and the state of the technology when it was shot. It could be a good tool for trip planning. Just thought I'd throw it out there. Just Google for Google Earth. I have a slow DSL connection and it works ok but I think a modem might be unbearably slow.

I use google maps all the time and the satellite views on that are pretty cool. You can see all kinds of things that aren't on the map, and the zoom is unreal.

I've using it a long time, I love it. I have all the places I have lived as place marks. It is very cool, you can even see my boat in my yard and the fact that no one was home when they took the picture of my house.

I couldn't figure how to post a direct link to my apt, but here's the coordinates where I live.

Check out Google Earth Hacks. Lots of cool files there for some sightseeing.

That's cool, but naturally the resolution in Vermont is really bad. REALLY bad. No better than google maps or that live.local.com one too. Barely make out roads much less buildings etc.

Go to:
32º 53' 21.94" N
117º 15' 04.09" W

That's Torrey Pines Park in San Diego. You can even see the hang glider port clearly. Just to the left, the ocean, at the bottom of the cliffs is Black's Beach. The local nude beach for San Diego.

Then there's:
33º 53' 30.06" S
151º 16' 29.98" E
That is Bondi Beach, a popular topless beach in Sydney, Australia.

I bet there's more...

Try this benny:
42º 52' 20.51" N
77º 17' 51.26" W

That's my house. You ccan see the boat and even the lawn chairs in the back yard.

Who says they're not watching us? At least me they're watching! I ain't paranoid!

Pat, they're not watchin me in Vermont!! Search for MAnchester, VT and check out how fuzzy it is. Ya know what's cool, go FROM your house to Manchester, it's cool how it pans over the lakes. Another thing I like is how you can kinda "throw" the map, if you drag it and release it while the mouse is moving it will keep panning.

Never used it before but I just wasted easily an hour playing with it. Cool toy plus useful tool!

Apparently they remove things like this, but due to the paint job they missed it! Have a look.
